Unforeseen Events on a Blustery Day
The clouds, a distance away, were thickening and taking on an ominous appearance. The rain, now dribbling down, started to come together over the lake to brainstorm some plan. The wind shouldn't be getting mixed up with the ocean and the rain. The three together caused much havoc; today, however, just a little mayhem was perhaps what the wind needed. The rain danced beautifully on the deep blue seas, and wind raced off to join it, dropping from the top of the cliff.

Silence of a Windless Day
The sun was high to pour heat and brightness into the air. Boys wiped the sweat from their forehead and glared angrily at the sun on the field. Ladies sat gathered on their porches with wailing newborn babies, trying to get some relief in the shadeless yard. The mud had dried into cracking cakes of dirt, and plants withered under the blazing heat; nothing seemed to enjoy the heat of the sun without the cooling blast of air.

Blowing Down a Windy Day
Far away in the mountains huddled undulating plains behind the rock on which the wind sat. A dark dreadful wall began to rise over the horizon, formed of quite another sort of cloud than the fleecy ones whose folds the sun lolled in, or the intermediate ones wherein rain danced over the sea. It knew that energy sizzled, eager to break free and hail waited in the dark wrinkles of these clouds. Wind merrily ran from the cliffside to join in the celebration, and storm had come out to play.

301 Dei Verbum: Part 2
At first, the societal upheavals were tumultuous. evoking the many theories. Why had the aliens landed so ostentatiously in a place synonymous with Christianity? Was it a scout ship for a planned invasion? Was it a calling card, an introduction for more to come? Was it sent by God? Were the unseen visitors dimensionally aphasic and we simply missed each other due to some myopic existential blindness?

Ol' Silas
Silas shuts the door with a click. A slice of the child running away from his house caught for a moment in the doorframe. His hook gleams at him from where it's hanging with his overcoat and waterproofs. Leaning on his stick, he peers past the dying houseplant on the sill. Almost dark, the back of that cheap polyester costume only just visible. See how they run. This one is carefree, now. All trace of fear gone. Excited to get back and show off the generous hall in that tacky orange bucket. Brag about the encounter with scary ole Silas Crowley. Stumping along the hallway, Silas reflects that that was the main thing that kept it alive: it would tell its friends. Let this one go, and more would surely follow. Silas tipped away his cold cocoa, and washed out the mug. He didn't like people. Didn't care to be liked, either. The rumours about his wife and daughter had flown around freely for years. It'd never impacted him after the police lost interest. Except... He'd had to behave. No more experiments. Give them no more reason for suspicion. Subsisting on scraps of fear from kids like that one, creeping up to his door on a dare. Already he could feel the aches in his joints easing. Walking a little straighter, he entered the dining room, and kissed his dear wife with a flourish, such as he hadn't for decades. Her desiccated skin hung off her bones.

The day the river ran backward. Top Story - October 2024. Content Warning.
The river ran backward on the day the Queen vanished. The river was always the Queen's favorite place. She'd sit on a rock, dipping her toes in to let the fish nibble on them. So, it was no surprise that her favorite scholar, Kai, immediately noticed that the river began fleeing when the Queen wasn't anywhere to be found. It also helped that she left a note—"Follow the river," it had said, but of course, the river led out of the kingdom and into the deep woods.
