Twisted Tales for Toilet Time: Volume II, Part VIII
Eight PM Once Upon a Hour of Time… I was born at exactly 8PM on the 8th August, 2008. So naturally my nickname at school was “Susan”. Well at least that’s what the bullies called me. When I went to University I managed to get the name “Crazy 8” working for me. Funny that I was the eighth child of my family, first born male after seven girls.

Dell was mad because he felt like he wasted Trudy’s money by going up to the school. He was initially excited when he spoke to the counselor about what he wanted to do. Unlike what Man said on the way home from Illinois, the lady actually knew what she was talking about. She explained to Dell that he should utilize the Community College to take all of his standard pre-requisites and some of his electives. She then explained to him what electives would transfer to the teaching program. She then took the time to explain the teaching programs from the local universities to Dell. It wasn’t until Judy was helping Dell with his application that they ran into the snag.

“Grandma!” Tori yelled from upstairs while dumping the contents of her purse all over her bed. Her yelling combined with the change hitting the hardwood floor startled Trudy so much she ran up the steps to find her granddaughter dumping the contents of her bed drawers. “Good Lord Victoria, what are you doing?!!”

Why is it so hot already? Dell pushed himself off of his bed and placed his hand on the floor vent. The only cold he felt was the metal grate. He sucked his teeth and walked over to the tiny closet. The hangers screamed along the metal bars as he pushed them to the side. Dell grabbed the big, light blue, box fan from the back of the closet and tossed it on his queen sized bed. He chuckled to himself remembering his mother laughing at him and Malik struggling to get the bed in his tiny room. Then he smiled because he had the first good night’s sleep in a few weeks. Yeah, the bed at Dre’s was comfortable, but his head hurt so badly he was too paranoid to sleep well.

Dell didn’t know the name of the emotion he was living. There were several times during the evening he lingered in the midst of relief and disappointment. The first time was when he got back to Tori’s house and noticed Trudy wasn’t home. He was initially relieved because he knew she knew more than she let on. On the other hand, Dell knew she was his strongest ally and would defend him if needed. She would also dote upon him once he told her about his plans to go to college and become a teacher. He was pleased that she would be proud of him.

Dell’s mind was racing as the truck came to a stop in waterfront lot. He reached between his legs and grabbed the duffel bag before extending his hand out over the front seat for Mann to shake. The pair exchanged obligatories, and then Dell shifted to face Sticks who raised an eyebrow at him and replied through a chuckle, “Oh that’s how you do family?”

Four PM Once Upon a Hour of Time… Pain seared through my hand. It burned so bad, it felt as hot as the sun at 4pm at the height of summer. While it wasn’t summer, it was 4pm. I had started cooking dinner, possibly too late. After chopping all the vegetables for the ‘Trinity’. That is, onion, celery, bell peppers, and garlic for the Pope. I attempted the slow process of making the dark roux required for gumbo, carefully following the instructions of the online video.

Tori and Tony were sweating, panting, and sliding up and down the wall of Trudy’s basement. Every fifteen minutes or so, Tony would stop to wipe the sweat from his bushy brow or take a sip of water before curling his lip up at Tori. Tori rolled her eyes and reached into the front pocket of her denim overalls for her phone before playfully slapping at Tony’s chest.

Chapter 4: Between a rock and a hard place Across the red hazy desert of Mars, Anna ran after Bone Crusher. His foot prints led towards a cavern that connected to a series of smaller caves. This was another reminder of Earth’s dominance as most of the cave created by the blast scars from the bombardment from the war with Earth.
