Letters the Ocean Never Returned
The Story The first letter arrived with the tide. Clara was walking the beach at dawn, shawl wrapped tight against the chill wind, when she spotted it—an envelope half-buried in the sand. The paper was softened and frayed, the ink smudged by saltwater, but her heart recognized the handwriting before she even touched it.

The Reflection That Spoke First
The first time it happened, I thought I was sleep-deprived. I had dragged myself into the bathroom at dawn, the fluorescent bulb humming above me, and leaned over the sink to splash water on my face. My reflection looked back at me — same dark circles, same tired frown — but then it blinked before I did. I froze. For a split second, it felt like the air between us thickened, as though the glass itself had become a wall I could never cross. Then, with lips I hadn’t yet moved, it whispered, “You can’t keep pretending.”

Waiting for Sunrise
“Hannah? Hannah!” Jake threw a wadded-up hamburger wrapper leftover from dinner at my face. His aim was perfect, as usual, but what did you expect from the starting quarterback of the high school football team? He had it all. Great grades, the looks, and girls falling for him left and right. He never let any of it get to him though. He was just the same down-to-earth guy I’d grown up with always hanging out in his parents’ basement when we were bored.
