Chapter Two: The Daily Events in the Life of a Supervillain
I was late again. The moment I set foot in Mr. Brendan’s chemistry class, I knew it. He gave me a look that said everything, and I knew I would be seeing him after class. Again. Oh well, the four thousand dollars I’d gotten from Mortmier city bank was worth it. Layla hadn’t even been around.

Black Ice
It came crashing down in a straight line, as if there was a glass shield between me and it. The black wall, speckled with the glowing green light of the foxfire, turned into a wall of inky black water without warning, falling before me and splashing out beyond, spreading itself outward into a crystal black bog. The foxfire floated atop it, casting splashes of light that illuminated its vast expanse.

The Long Way Back
There is a space very dear to me. It lies somewhere between the heat and the cold, the core and the surface. A place I never knew I was always fighting for. I discovered it once, and I’ve dedicated my entire life to the great inevitable return. I was there. I swear I was there. All that matters now is finding my way back.

A Frozen Talent
The only time I’m ever alone is when I go to the bathroom, and that’s only since I turned fourteen. Before that, Mary Poppins always sat in there with me, with her face turned away. When I had a bath or a shower or – anything else, she was always present, but not any longer. She does sit outside the door, though, and listen.

Child of The Water
Bam. Bam. Bam. A harsh pounding resounds from underneath a frozen lake's surface. The sound of someone's hand slamming as hard as it can against the ice that's taken hold of the lake. Underneath the icy sheet is Nerissa, a child of the Delphinin people who are water-faring people. The Delphinin people can exist in both salt and freshwater. Given this flexibility, they have made a home in many of Earth's water sources: oceans, swamps, rivers, lakes, etc. Nerissa had been asleep in the depths of Lake Superior. When she awoke, the surface was covered with a thick layer of ice reaching down, from her rough approximation, a foot and a half.

Staying Afloat
Abel’s fists shake from the grip he has on the handle of his backpack, and he hurls it over his head, “It isn’t fair!” The tattered thing smacks against the ice then slides towards the middle. A couple of pencils and some loose change manage to slip out of an existing hole in the bottom. He looks up to the sky. “You’re taking away the only thing I’ve ever cared about! Is this how you repay your children? They try their hardest to pray and follow your stupid commandments, but then you go ahead and abandon them!”

Iridescent Fall
She lay on her back surrounded by nothing and a darkness that swallowed everything. She couldn’t remember a single moment of her life before then, and yet, she had a strange sense of knowing. The air was crisp while she watched her shallow breaths blow smoke into the air. Where was she? Her first thought was to dig through the cavern searching for an out. The ground beneath her was surprisingly damp and soft. Inching forward on her hands and knees, she moved along slowly taking in the faint sound of wind. There was a twinge of hope as the thought of fresh air seemed so near, and then she was falling. She didn’t notice the chill in the air had grown colder. Never landing, only slowing down, the space around had begun to glow.
