Midnight Magic
Every night at midnight, the purple clouds came out to dance with the blushing sky. That was the time when barriers were thinnest between the solid and spirit realms, between past, present, and future scenes. You could hear voices sometimes, of those who had passed on. Feel the warm embrace of a love from long ago. And places, if you wanted to travel between spaces, whisked amongst worlds and amidst existances, that was the ideal opportunity... though there was no guarantee you'd return wholly yourself or roost in quite the same nest as where you'd left.

The Five Fey
Every night at midnight, the purple clouds came out to dance with the blushing sky. The sweet scent of apple blossoms caressed the cheek and slid silently up reddened noses. The grass was cool and dew was collecting on the hem of their dresses as they steadily strode up the small hill. The field below was surface still, but undulating slightly; like a dark sea. They reached the stone circle just as the amethyst moon broke through the clouds. They quietly set about spreading blankets and lighting candles. The moon shone so brightly the candles were not necessary, but symbolic and customary. The fey placed the candles in a circle by their feet then slowly laid down on the woolen blankets with their feet at the center; fanning out their hair above their heads. The candlelight danced and swayed with the most subtle of breezes. And so, they waited, the five fey.

The Unbroken Key
Every night at midnight, the purple clouds came out to dance with the blushing sky. Mara loved to watch them bend and blow into strange shapes, she sat on a chaise in the corner of the small unit she shared with her father. The archives didn’t usually provide a residence for families but they’d made an exception. Mara still wasn’t sure why. She played with her hair, humming quietly to herself, her legs curled gracelessly beneath her as she stared out the window when suddenly, something caught her eye. A small shape passing through the clouds, she leaned forward squinting. It almost looked like a missive. But who would be sending one at this time of night? The archives had enacted a strict curfew after numerous noise complaints. She tracked the folded piece of paper as it flew across the pink sky, directly towards the administration office. Before she could muse any further on the origin or purpose of the missive she was distracted by a noise behind her. She turned rapidly, almost falling from her chair and saw her father standing in the doorway with an amused smile.

At Some Point
Every night at midnight, the purple clouds came out to dance with the blushing sky. In winter, spectacular gusts of pink and violet snow would waltz upwards, through the trees and the rooftops, all the way up to the stars; spring brought the crashing of leaves into the shore, every last leaf painted with a unique shade of gold or crimson or peach; summer would announce itself as it always did: flocks of merry tourists, everyone from here to London squeezed on that same strip of lilac sand; and every autumn, without fail, those vividly coloured leaves would retreat, disappearing into the mist of our great, wine-red ocean. At some point, someone must have betrayed William, because he could not see any of this. All he saw was grey.
