Adventure
The Horse King
The river ran backwards on the day the queen vanished. I was there, not in the kingdom, at the river. I watched the water take its course as only nature can, this same immovable way. At first I supposed the 'ran in reverse' idea quite poetic. When the common person had come to genuinely believe this, and as a response to the King's love lost, I found concern. By the end of her second month vanished it was still the focal point of all relevant creation. We didn’t speak of her when she was here, but the state of government has spun out.

The Magikor. Runner-Up in Fantasy Prologue II Challenge.
The river ran backwards on the day the Queen vanished. The first to notice were the priests, rising early to pray by the water's edge. Next were the fishermen, preparing their vessels and nets for the day’s work. The rest of the village learned of the river’s reversal from children sent to fetch pails of water, who returned empty-handed, eager to share the strange news. By midmorning, all of West Karlif was gathered at the riverbank—some in stunned silence, others chattering excitedly, and the rest on bent knees, begging for God’s forgiveness for sins they could not name.

The Vanishing Queen: The First Chronicle
The river ran backwards on the day the Queen vanished. Pandemonium ensued. "It is an ill omen!" the people cried, wailing and wringing their hands in fear. And quite rightly, as never mind the superstitious implications of sinister powers at work and things being awry in the world, made manifest in nature's reversal, the river's flow change posed problems, as it was a practical nightmare.

The Last Breath
The river ran backwards on the day the Queen vanished. They say the gods abandoned the woods that day, and everything became twisted. The birds ceased to sing, their calls warping into screams. Animals wept, and flowers turned black. The earth itself soured, and soil started to bleed.

Changes Taking Place
I waited with Mario and Anya in the car while Fig checked on Georgio who was still recovering in his hospital room. It was a quick visit, just so Fig could let Uncle Georgio know that she loved him and wasn't going to abandon him during this tough time. Though she was afraid, she knew that she'd rather sign up as his caretaker then have to think about what his life might be like at a nursing home. He still couldn't speak well enough for a conversation about how to repair the house, so she didn't bring it up yet.

Loyalty
The river ran backwards on the day the queen vanished. Misty Teague was frogging in the water and making quite a splash when the current reversed and swept her off her feet. Were it not for her most loyal mutt, Lion, gripping her calico dress stalwartly between his teeth, ever careful not to allow those canines to graze the skin of his small mistress, she would surely have been lost downstream, and swiftly.
