Legend of Snake Eye
The following is the prologue to my new upcoming book, Legend Of Snake Eye. Coming April 1st! Before we begin our legendary story of Snake Eye's lost love, it is important to understand who exactly this man was. Therefore I shall start with how he became one of the most skilled assassins to ever walk God's green earth. His journey began in Birmingham, England in the year of 1978 when he was first born into the Sun family. His father, Hideo Sun, was a Japanese Martial Artist who made his fortune teaching Jiu-Jitsu to impressionable youths at the time, as the martial arts trend was at an all time high during the late 1970s. His mother (named Emily Bennett) however was an English native who fell in love with Hideo's exotic moves (not just on the mat, but in the bedroom too; the details of which I shall spare you out of respect for the mother of a legend such as Snake Eye). Long before Snake Eye got his famous nickname, his parents named him Ryan Sun. Hideo had fought in wars as a Japanese soldier, using both long range weaponry and relying on his close quarters combat skills. Because of this, Hideo raised his son like a soldier, even at the dismay of his own wife. It meant Ryan's childhood was more strict and difficult than most UK children, although it formed him into the deadly killer he would later become in life. Ryan was so disciplined in childhood, that when he first began military school at the ripe young age of 11, he was the only boy not to cry under the strict commands of the drill sergeants that trained them all into one day becoming great soldiers for the Great British Army. At 18, Ryan Sun became a soldier for the British government, later fighting in Afghanistan in late 2001 alongside American and European soldiers at the age of 23, by then he was a sergeant, although a young one he was incredibly reliable and stern, everyone respected him. Yet, it wouldn't be until 2005 when he first became the government assassin, at age 28, that would eventually lead to his ultimate destiny. His final mission took him to Tokyo, Japan in 2008 where he would go undercover, infiltrating the Yakuza who had recently been stirring up a lot of trouble internationally with the likes of sex trafficking and drug trades that even the British government were afraid of since many of the drugs that were flooding the likes of London, came from shipping containers and mysterious boats from Eastern shores. Ryan's job was to find the leader of this criminal organisation and put a stop to him, permanently. They chose Ryan Sun specifically for this task, as he already spoke perfect Japanese and appeared to be a local to Tokyo already. Ryan loved visiting Tokyo, in fact finally entering Japan after all these years fighting in Afghanistan and living in England was a treat! He always planned on visiting his father's homeland, yet being a soldier and government assassin kept him too busy for any holidays. He only wished he could have visited this wonderful country under better circumstances. Yet, that was not to be. He wouldn't even have time to be a tourist, as he set foot in Japan his first goal was to join the Yakuza and prove himself worthy of their gang. However, the flight there and travelling by taxi to the big city was wonderful. Nobody suspected Ryan even was a tourist, they treated him as a local, although some noticed is slightly more British accent even when speaking in their native tongue. This was something he did well to hide, yet it still stood out from time to time, it would be a bad situation if the Yakuza clocked onto his true origins. For a long time, it seemed his cover was secure, as the gang welcomed him into their ranks without problem, although he could not meet the boss of the Yakuza yet until he had proven his loyalty and reliability to them. So Ryan found himself doing despicable things in order to earn enough trust into meeting this evil businessman. He soon came to realise his target was known as Chan Lee, a name that would haunt Ryan for the rest of his life, he didn't know it yet, but the Yakuza were far smarter than Ryan had given them credit for. Unfortunately his accent did slip from time to time, proving that Ryan was of British origin and Chan knew too well that Western Governments from Europe, Britain and America were taking a great interest in him. So Chan set Ryan up for failure, they were to finally meet in his office for a chat, only for Chan to order his guards to lock the doors behind them, locking Ryan in with him.

In the heart of the city stood a grand opera house, its history as old as the city itself. The building, with its towering marble columns and gilded accents, was known for its opulent performances and world-class music. But there was one performance that no one had ever seen—the Silent Symphony. The Silent Symphony was rumored to be a musical composition so powerful that it could alter the course of time. It was said that the composer, a mysterious figure named Adrienne Blackwood, wrote the symphony decades ago but had vanished without a trace before it could ever be performed. The manuscript was lost to time, and for years, the opera house was left with the legend of the Silent Symphony and no way to bring it to life. But then, one cold winter evening, a young composer named Isaac Wilder found an old, dust-covered sheet of music in the opera house's attic. It was the Symphony. Adrienne’s masterpiece, the one everyone thought was a myth, was real. He was determined to perform it—no matter the cost. The Composition’s Curse As Isaac sat in the dimly lit attic, he carefully unfolded the fragile pages. The notes were strange, unlike anything he had ever seen before. They seemed to defy logic, twisting and turning in patterns that made no sense at first glance. But something about the music resonated with him. It was as if the composition was calling out to him, beckoning him to unlock its secrets. Isaac spent months studying the Silent Symphony, deciphering its complexities, and assembling an orchestra. The musicians, skeptical at first, were soon caught up in the allure of the unknown. It was said that whoever played the Symphony would be forever changed—and perhaps, even transported to a different time. The night of the performance arrived. The opera house was packed, the audience buzzing with anticipation. Isaac stood before the orchestra, his hands trembling with a mixture of excitement and fear. He had rehearsed every note, every measure, but deep down, he knew this was something beyond music. This was more than a performance—it was a portal, a gateway to something far greater. The Performance As Isaac raised his baton, the orchestra began to play. The first few notes echoed through the grand hall, their beauty beyond words. The audience sat in stunned silence, entranced by the haunting melody that filled the air. It was as if time itself had slowed. Each note felt like it was part of something eternal, something beyond the limits of human understanding. But as the symphony continued, something strange began to happen. The sound grew louder, more intense, until it felt as though the very walls of the opera house were vibrating with the music. The audience was no longer just listening—they were experiencing the Symphony in a way that was impossible to describe. Their surroundings seemed to blur, and the lines between the present and the past began to fade. Isaac, lost in the music, felt himself being pulled into the composition. The notes wrapped around him like a cocoon, lifting him off the ground. It was as if the Symphony had unlocked a hidden dimension, one where time was fluid and malleable. He saw flashes of moments from the past—glimpses of Adrienne Blackwood composing the Symphony in a dark, candle-lit room. The Final Note As the last note rang out, everything stopped. The hall fell into complete silence. The audience was still, their faces blank, as though they had been caught in a trance. Isaac lowered his baton, his heart racing. He had done it. The Silent Symphony had been brought to life—but at what cost? The orchestra was frozen, their eyes wide with confusion, as if they had experienced something they couldn’t comprehend. And then, in the stillness, Isaac realized that the Symphony had done exactly what it was meant to do: it had transported him, and everyone in the hall, to another place—a place where time no longer followed the rules. The Silent Symphony had unlocked the past, but now, no one knew if they would ever return. ---

In the small town of Everwood, there was a garden that no one spoke about. It sat behind the old, crumbling estate of the Galloway family, overgrown with vines and thick hedges. The mansion had been abandoned for decades, but the garden remained a mystery. Its gates, rusted and barely hanging on their hinges, were a symbol of something lost—a secret kept hidden for years. No one dared to approach the garden, for the rumors surrounding it were enough to keep the townspeople away. Whispers told of strange happenings: shadows that moved on their own, flowers that bloomed at midnight, and eerie sounds that echoed through the night. For years, the garden had been left untouched, until one day, a young woman named Lily decided to explore. The Unlikely Explorer Lily had always been curious. She grew up hearing the stories about the garden, but rather than being frightened, she was drawn to it. She had recently moved to Everwood, hoping to start anew after a difficult breakup. The quiet town seemed perfect for her to heal, but the mystery of the garden lingered in her mind, pulling her like a magnet. One afternoon, with the sun dipping low in the sky, Lily stood at the entrance of the garden. The gates creaked as she pushed them open, revealing a world that seemed frozen in time. The air was thick with the scent of jasmine and roses, but there was something unnatural about the stillness. It felt as if the garden had been waiting for her, just as she had been waiting for it. As she wandered deeper into the overgrown paths, Lily noticed that the plants seemed to grow in strange patterns—twisting and curling in ways that defied nature. Some flowers glowed faintly in the dimming light, casting an otherworldly aura around them. The silence was deafening, broken only by the occasional rustling of leaves in the breeze. The Heart of the Garden At the center of the garden stood an ancient fountain, its waters still and covered in moss. It was beautiful, yet haunting. As Lily approached, she noticed something peculiar. The water in the fountain seemed to shimmer, as if it were reflecting not the sky above, but something much deeper—a hidden world beneath the surface. Drawn to the fountain, Lily bent down to take a closer look. Her fingers brushed against the cold stone, and in that moment, the air seemed to shift. The ground beneath her feet trembled, and the water in the fountain rippled, revealing a faint image of a woman’s face. Startled, Lily stepped back, but the face in the water remained. It was a woman, with long, dark hair and eyes that seemed to be pleading for something. The face was both familiar and foreign, as if Lily had seen it before, but couldn’t place where. The Forgotten Truth Suddenly, a voice echoed in the stillness of the garden. It was soft, yet clear, and seemed to come from nowhere. “Find me.” Lily’s heart raced. She looked around, but no one was there. The voice spoke again, this time more urgently. “Find me… before it’s too late.” Without thinking, Lily reached out and touched the water. As her fingers made contact, the garden seemed to come alive. The flowers bloomed brighter, the vines twisted and moved, and the ground beneath her feet shifted. The face in the fountain stared at her with a knowing expression. Then, everything went silent. The garden was still once again, but Lily now understood. The garden held the memory of someone long lost—someone trapped in time. And it was up to her to unlock its secret before the garden, and its mystery, faded forever. ---

As industrialization expanded in cities like Chicago, Detroit, New York, and Philadelphia, the North and West were experiencing economic booms. Factories and manufacturing plants were offering higher-paying jobs, and urban areas became magnets for Black families seeking to escape the deeply ingrained racism of the South. The First Wave of Migration (1916-1940) The first major wave of the Great Migration began in 1916 and lasted until the 1940s. During this period, over 1.6 million African Americans left the South. The outbreak of World War I accelerated the demand for industrial labor in the North, and African Americans seized the opportunity to find employment. The migration was not limited to one city or region—individuals and families moved to cities across the country, seeking safety, economic stability, and a more dignified life. The impact of this migration was immediately evident. Cities like Harlem in New York became cultural hubs for African Americans, giving birth to the Harlem Renaissance—a vibrant movement in art, literature, music, and intellectual thought. The Great Migration also marked a turning point in the political landscape, as African Americans began to shift from a Republican-leaning party to a more prominent presence in the Democratic Party, especially in northern cities. The Second Wave (1941-1970) The second wave of the Great Migration occurred during and after World War II, continuing until 1970. It was a continuation of the desire for better economic opportunities, but by this time, the scope of the migration had expanded even further. Between 1941 and 1970, an additional 5 million African Americans moved from the South, contributing to the rapid growth of cities like Los Angeles, Oakland, and Detroit. The cities that became home to millions of African Americans during this period are now home to vibrant African American communities that continue to influence American culture, politics, and society. The migration also marked a critical turning point in the fight for racial equality, contributing to the changing demographics of the United States and the ongoing struggle for justice and civil rights. The Great Migration was not just a movement of people; it was a movement of hope, resilience, and the quest for a better future—a future that, despite the challenges, remains a testament to the strength of the African American community. ---
