My newfound strategy involves punctuating every Zoom call with unpredictable shrieks of my own name — like a deranged parrot that just discovered its favorite word. At first, my coworkers thought it was a glitch in my microphone settings. One by one, they tried to help: “Is everything okay, Dave?” their eyes bulging with concern. Little did they know that every outburst was meticulously timed to maintain the upper hand. If chaos is power, then I’m practically the emperor of the digital realm.

Each time I sense the slightest lull in attention, I unleash a sonic assault: “DAVE!” The startled faces flicker in their frames, struggling not to choke on coffee. It’s delightful — the sheer unpredictability sets me apart from the humdrum corporate hustle.

Of course, I’m not waging this crusade alone. Out of the ether, Fama, the often-overlooked Roman goddess of rumor, materializes from the background like a spectral force summoned by sheer audacity, her presence both ethereal and unsettling. Her eyes glimmer with a knowing light, as if she carries secrets too profound for mortal comprehension. The very air around her seems to hum with an ancient energy, and when she steps into view, it feels less like an arrival and more like an inevitability — as though she has always been there, waiting for the precise moment to reveal herself. She doesn’t ask to join; she simply arrives — draped in a cheerleader’s outfit complete with golden pom-poms, her shimmering toga swapped for a sparkling mini-skirt. Fama begins her routine with flair, tossing her pom-poms into the air as she chants, “Go, Dave! Shake the digital realm!” Her movements are hypnotic, a fusion of classical grace and high-energy cheerleading that feels wildly out of place but oddly empowering.

Fama’s antics have profound effects. Each time she cheers, my voice seems to gain an extra octave of authority, my shrieks of “DAVE!” reverberating with godlike power. The startled faces on the screen shift from confusion to something approaching awe — or perhaps resignation. As she cartwheels in the background, occasionally blowing an ancient horn for added dramatic effect, my coworkers seem too mesmerized to challenge my dominance. At precisely 10:15 a.m., as if on schedule, Fama hands me a steaming latte, her smirk carrying the weight of ages. My reign as the digital emperor feels assured, thanks to her chaotic, mythic encouragement.

And yet, as the days pass, an unsettling question begins to gnaw at the edges of my confidence. Who is Fama really, and what does she stand to gain from her theatrical support? Her sudden appearance, her near-supernatural timing, the way her cheers seem to manipulate not just my coworkers but the very fabric of these meetings — it all feels too precise, too calculated. Could she be orchestrating more than my dominance? Perhaps her true goal is disruption, subtly unraveling the company’s operations to sabotage a pending merger rumored to alter the timeline. A deal so consequential it might prevent someone, somewhere, from ever being born. I see it now in her smirk, that glimmer of knowledge far beyond my grasp. Every cartwheel, every chant, every steaming latte — what if it’s all part of a divine game, and I’m just the pawn?

Fama’s presence, both empowering and enigmatic, leaves me wondering: am I the architect of my chaos, or merely the vessel for hers?
