Straight Outta School
The government retreats from all forms of education.
This marked the first semester that all schools from pre-K to PhD would be completely untouched by the government. Federal, state, and local schools, colleges and universities would no longer be threatened by the State.
“I think it sucks!” Richter Verbose declared. He looked like volcano ash.
“Do you, now?” Lister Sproles asked. He looked like the night sky.
“Sure, the government helped people out of debt.”
“Yes, the same debt it caused in the first place by distorting markets. Nice try buddy, go again.”
“Well the government provided grants.”
“Private organizations could do more and better.”
“I see now.”

The hushed reverence within the British Library's Main Reading Room was thick enough to choke on. The air hung heavy with the scent of aged paper and leather-bound tomes, a symphony of knowledge waiting to be explored. Scholars and history buffs from across the globe had converged on this London evening for a momentous occasion: the unveiling of a newly acquired collection of ancient Babylonian clay tablets, unearthed during a recent, headline-grabbing archaeological dig in the heart of Mesopotamia. These enigmatic tablets, rumored to hold secrets about a lost astronomical calendar, were displayed in a specially designed, temperature-controlled case in the center of the Reading Room.

Confessions of an Empath
The birds are chirping, and the sun is shining in a cloudless July sky. The vibrancy promises a beautiful day, but the cooing of the Mourning Dove perched on the powerlines seems to be more fitting than the lively songs of the robin flitting through the trees. The melancholic calls of the dove cloak the world in a sadness that hangs like tattered drapes.
