Bri ran through the ice-cold rain, her vibrant red dress; ripped. One strap had been completely removed and left in shreds, revealing a large slash that cut deep into her shoulder. Her feet were covered in thick wet mud as she ran, tears streaming down her cheeks as she struggled to catch her breath. She was in shock, traumatized, confused, and lost in her mind as she tried to understand what had happened. Her body was moving on its own while her mind raced.

‘What’s going on?! Why did this happen to me?!’ She thought in a panic. ‘All I wanted to do was go on a date! Is that too much to ask!?’

As she ran she stumbled upon an old abandoned barn. The roof had collapsed and the door had snapped off its hinges, allowing her to slip into the building. As she looked around, she noticed the smell of old, wet hay that had started to mold. The barn was barely standing as rain stormed down through holes in the roof. There were several broken tools and fraying ropes lying about. As she took a moment to take in her surroundings, she heard a crunch, a footstep that was just outside the barn. She gasped but quickly covered her mouth to muffle the sound as she darted to hide behind a bail pile.

While she hid she took just a moment to notice the condition she was in. She was trembling, completely consumed by fear of what had happened. Her short, brown hair; which was originally styled to look similar to a 1950s pin-up girl, had fallen apart and was now frizzy and ratted. Her painted red nails were broken and chipped, with a bit of blood and skin under them from a fight. She had small scratches all over her body, as well as a bit of bruising. As she gazed at her dress which was now dirty and wet with mud, her mind was shot back to reality with the sound of another crunch. She physically jerked from fear but made sure not to gasp.

A man, smiling with a twisted grin, walked into the barn with a chuckle. He was dressed nice, in a fancy suit that was now also ruined by the rain and mud. His eyes had a wild aura to them, like a beast that had been set free and was after its captures for revenge.

“Oh, pretty lady~” He called out in a cooing voice. “Come on out, I just want to get to know you.” He said as he moved some of his wet, black hair out of his face. “Is that so wrong? I took you to a nice restaurant. We had a good time, didn’t we?” He asked as he looked around. “I treated you right, I was a gentleman. I didn’t even ask for anything. I just want to get to know you, that’s all. And you know the best way to do that?” He asked happily as he held the knife up near his face, looking at it and gently petting the blade. “It’s to see who you are on the inside! If you’re as pretty on the inside as you are on the out, we’ll be perfect together!” He said excitedly.

Bri teared up a bit as she thought to herself, recalling all of the events that had led up to this moment…

…

Her day had started like any other, normal. She had gone to her favorite coffee shop like she always had and got her same, basic drink. As she sat down to look through a morning magazine she noticed an attractive young man from the corner of her eye. He was dressed in a fancy business suit, his hair was a bit longer but slicked back to keep it looking nice. His eyes were a light green that instilled a sense of calm when looking at them. She couldn’t help but smile a bit as she blushed and looked away. She decided to mind her own business and simply keep reading her magazine.

As she found the spot she left off on someone bumped into the back of her chair and spilled their coffee all over the floor. “Oh my god!” A young male voice shouted. It was the man that Bri had been gazing at. “Are you alright?!” He asked her with obvious concern.

“Huh? Oh ah, yeah, I’m ok.” She said, looking at the floor and moving her feet away from the coffee spill. “It all missed me, you’re good.” She said smiling. Her brown hair was in a small ponytail that barely had enough hair to even make it, she was wearing very basic clothing. Just a nice green top and some black leggings with tennis shoes.

The man smiled. “I’m so glad.” He said as a worker came and cleaned up his mess while he talked to Bri. “My name is Brian. What’s yours?” He asked.

Bri giggled a bit. “I’m Brian, the female Brian, but I go by Bri.” She said as she offered him her hand to shake it.

Brian couldn't help but laugh at the bad joke. “Really? What’s the chance of that?” He said happily. He then looked a bit shy as he spoke. “Hey… I know this is a bit sudden but, I do feel really bad about almost dumping coffee on you. Would you mind if I take you out to apologize? Like… Kind of a date?” He said, blushing slightly. “You’re just… Pretty, and I’d love to take you out. I know it’s sudden and really weird so if you say no I get it.”

Bri blushed as she looked shocked but smiled. “No no, not at all. I’d love that. You’re pretty handsome yourself.” She said in a flirty voice as she pulled out her cellphone. “Here, give me your number and I’ll text you. Then you can text me the date and time.”

Brian took her phone and nodded. “Deal.” He said as he did what he needed to and handed it back. Just then a worker brought Brian a replacement coffee. “Ah, thank you.” He said to them politely. “I’ll text you the information. Just don’t forget to text me first.” He said as he left, but not before giving Bri a final glance back.

Bri felt her heart flutter with excitement as she instantly texted Brian so he had her number. She had hit a dry spell when it came to relationships and was excited to go out again since it had been so long. She then waited anxiously for his reply. It didn’t take long before he got back to her and they scheduled a date and time. They had planned for the weekend and were going to go see a movie, to meet at the theater, and that be it.

…

Later that night while Bri was lying in bed, she got a phone call from Brian. She was confused as she picked up. “Hello?”

“Bri? Is that you?” He asked on the other line.

“Yeah, what’s up?” She asked.

“I know this is sudden, but I was wondering if you’d like to go out for dinner tonight?”

“Tonight?!” She asked in shock. She looked at the time and noticed it was only 5:00 pm. “Well… I guess it’s not too late for a weekday. But why the sudden offer?”

“I had other plans tonight,” Brian explained. “I had a meeting with a client at this fancy restaurant that I booked months out in advance. They just canceled on me suddenly, apparently, someone in their family got sick and they needed to leave. If it wasn’t for the fact that this is a nice place and difficult to get into I wouldn’t bother you with a sudden date like this, but it’s a special occasion.” He explained. “What do you say? No, it’s completely fine by the way. I know this is sudden.”

Bri thought for a moment before answering. “You know what, sure, why not. Give me some time to get ready though, ok? I’ll text you my address so you can pick me up. Is 45 minutes ok?”

“Perfect. Reservation is at 6:00 pm anyways so hopefully, we can make it on time. After I get your address I'll let you know when I’ll be picking you up so we don’t miss it.”

“Ok, see you then,” Bri said as she hung up and squealed a bit. This was all moving very fast for her, but it all made sense. She had no reason to question anything and Brian seemed like a good guy. This would be her first time going to a fancy restaurant so she made sure to dress up as nice as she could for the situation, putting on her most expensive, or at least expensive-looking jewelry, doing her hair, nails, makeup, and throwing on a red cocktail dress with matching pumps.

Brian picked her upright when he said he would. He was wearing the same clothes from earlier since he was already dressed up nicely. “Wow, you look incredible.” He said sweetly. “Sorry I didn’t bring you any flowers, this was last minute after all.”

Bri giggled, “No no, don’t worry about it. I’m excited to get to go out somewhere fancy. And I’m not paying, right?” She teased.

“Oh heaven no.” Brian said laughing back, “Everything tonight is on me, just enjoy yourself.” He said in a caring voice and he escorted her to his car and the date began.

The night was perfect, Brian was a complete gentleman and the restaurant was like out of a movie. The two of them drank, ate, and had fun. They seemed like a perfect pair and Bri was on cloud nine from the attention she was getting. It was a perfect date, one that Bri had always dreamt of going on but never thought she would in her entire life. After the date was done Brian offered to drive Bri home.

“Thank you, I think that’s a good idea.” She said with a giggle. “I’m a bit tipsy from all that wine if you know what I mean.” She said with a flirty voice.

“Oh?” Brian asked, looking concerned before he caught onto the joke. “Oh~! Well then, if you’re feeling like it, would you like to get a hotel and keep the fun going?” He asked.

Bri blushed, not expecting him to be so blunt. “Oh! Oh my.” She said giggling. “I didn’t think you’d ask that. Um… I, I don’t know. I’m kind of embarrassed now.” She said honestly.

“I’m sorry, I was just trying to be polite. It’s your choice either way.” He said.

Bri thought for a moment, the alcohol clouding her mind and judgement as she smiled and said. “Ok! Let’s do it. You’re by far the hottest guy I’ve ever met so I want to sleep with you at least once.”

Brian laughed hard at the compliment. “Well thank you, you’re pretty attractive yourself.” He said, throwing the same line back at her. “Alright, let’s go. I got a great hotel we can go to.”

Bri happily hopped in the car and relaxed as she let Brian take the lead and go where he wanted to. Bri felt so safe with Brian that she had let herself slip off and fall asleep for a bit in the car ride.

…

When she woke up, they were in the middle of nowhere, driving down a country road. Bri looked around, with obvious confusion on her face. “Where are we?” She asked.

“Oh, you’re awake.” He said with a smile. “You fell asleep for a bit. Don’t worry, we’re almost there.”

“Almost… Where?” She asked. “We’re in the middle of nowhere. How did we get this far out of the city so fast? How long was I out?”

“Just a bit,” Brian said with a smile. “Remember? You wanted to go to a hotel to hook up. That’s what we’re doing.”

Bri turned bright red. “Oh god… I did say that. Oh my god, I must have gotten so drunk, I’m so sorry. How embarrassing.” She said in a horrified voice as she put her head in her hands to hide the readiness of her cheeks. “Hey… Listen, I know this is rude of me, but I don’t think I want to do that anymore. Is… Is that ok?” She asked nervously.

Brian smiled, “Of course that’s ok. I wouldn’t force you to do anything you don’t want to.” He said happily. “Besides, that’s not what I really wanted to do anyways. You’re beautiful, and of course, I’d love to have sex with you, but I want to get to know you first if that’s alright. I’d like to see if you’re as beautiful on the inside as you are on the outside.” He explained.

Bri let out a huge sigh of relief as she relaxed in the car, happy that Brian was being so understanding. “Thank goodness. I’m so glad you’re so understanding. God, I’m really lucky I found a guy like you.” She said giggling. “Things could have gone so bad so fast.”

Brian laughed with her. “Right? You could have ended up with a psycho or something.” He said as he pulled the car over.

Bri looked around a bit confused and worried. “Ah… What are you doing?” She asked.

“Just pulling over for a bit. I just want to get to know you, is that ok? I thought we’d just do that quickly before I start heading back. I’ve got something to help us, one second.” He said as he started rummaging around on his side of the car.

Bri looked at him confused but then turned her head to look outside. It was nothing but cornfields and farmland. “I mean, yeah that’s fine, but couldn’t we do that while driving?” She asked, now suddenly getting a slightly uneasy feeling. It was dark outside, so dark that it was difficult to see. The only source of light was the mood, but in the shadows of the cornfield, even that wasn’t enough. She looked up at the sky from in the car and noticed clouds starting to roll in. “Hey, it looks like it’s going to rain. I’d feel better if we did this while driving. I’m not a big fan of storms, and I’m sure you’re a good driver but it still makes me kind of nervous. Driving in a storm I mean.”

Just as Bri glanced at Brian in the car to see his reaction, she saw a flash of something silver out of the corner of her eye. She turned to look at him fully and saw that he was holding a huge knife. “What the hell?!” She exclaimed in horror. “Why do you have a knife?!” She immediately started trying to find the handle to get out of the car but wouldn’t look away from Brian, in fear of what he was going to do.

Brian smiled. “I said I wanted to get to know you, remember? I wanted to see if you were as beautiful on the inside as you are on the outside. And the only way to do that is to cut you open. This knife will help! It won’t hurt, I promise. And I’ll let you see my insides too. It’s only fair after all.” He then lifted the knife and quickly slashed down at Bri, in an attempt to slice her open from the middle.

Just then, Bri managed to get the car door open. As she fell out backward, Brian’s knife missed its main target but managed to still slice open her shoulder, creating a huge gash and ripping off one of the sleeves of her dress. As she tumbled out of the car, Bri rolled down into a ditch, being cut and scratched up by the various plants growing there. She quickly got on her feet and threw her shoes off so she could run better.

Brian got out of the car and calmly followed behind Bri. “Bri! Where are you going?! You said you wanted this too, remember? To get to know me back! We could be perfect together! You’re so pretty!! Let me just see the real you, the you that’s inside!!” He called out. As he pursued her the storm clouds that Bri had seen rolling in suddenly clashed with thunder, and a downpour began to fall.

Bri frantically ran through the cornfield, blinded by the darkness and rain, hoping to come across anyone who could help her. She had tears streaming down her cheeks, and even though she was shaking from fear her body refused to let her freeze, determined to move and save her life. The first building Bri came across was an abandoned barn. With no hesitation she ran inside and hid, waiting to see if Brian could find her. She was hiding behind some bail pile as Brian walked into the barn, looking and calling out to her.

“Oh, pretty lady~” He called out in a cooing voice.

Bri blocked out Brian’s voice as he kept talking, trying to lure her out. Out of nowhere, Bri’s terror suddenly turned into excitement. Behind her shaking hand hid a smile as the tears started to dry up from her face. She was doing everything she could to contain a laugh that was trying to escape. Her thoughts began to race. ‘So this is what it’s like to be on the other side! To be the one being hunted and chased. I never thought the day would come.’ She reached into her cleavage and pulled out a small syringe with a clear liquid inside. ‘I was planning on having fun with him, but it turned out to be the other way around. I’m glad I found some extra poison laying around. I needed to make a fresh batch so I thought this was just going to be a normal date, but I found some leftover from last time. Good thing too, who knew we’d be so perfect together. He has to be the man of my dreams~.’ She thought excitedly as a giggle escaped her, remembering the trail of victims she had left behind before. Bri herself was a serial killer who enjoyed prying on young, good, honest men. She never once thought she’d be thrown into the opposite situation.

The giggle that Bri had released immediately caught Brian’s attention. He calmly walked over and peered over the bail of hay at her with a charming smile. “There you are~!” He said excitedly.

Bri gasped, hiding the syringe in her hand as she looked up at Brian. She went back to acting completely terrified; like she was about to die. “Please! No!” She cried out as she ran away and pinned herself against the wall of the barn with nowhere to run.

“Don’t worry. It won’t hurt.” Brian said in his caring voice as he slowly walked up to her. “I’ll make it fast. And then, you can look in me.” He said happily. Bri cracked a smile and a giggle again by accident which made Brian confused. “What’s so funny?” He asked curiously, as he stood so close to her that any normal woman would be terrified.

“Oh, just that you and I really are the perfect couple.” She said excitedly. She looked into Brian’s eyes with the same wildness he had shown earlier while hunting her earlier.

Brian recognized the look in her eyes but was unable to react to it. There was then a sharp pain in his neck that stopped his movements. “W-What?” He glanced and saw that Bri had injected something into him. He looked at her in shock.

Bri smiled at Brian lovingly as she gave him a sudden passionate kiss on the lips. “Oh sweetie, you were mine the whole time and didn’t know it.”

Brian then suddenly cracked a smile and laughed before saying. “So this is what it’s like to be on the other side… To be the one being hunted and chased. I never thought the day would come.” Brian’s knife slipped out of his hand as he felt his consciousness fade and the world around him blurred until he was gone. His body dropped to the ground of the barn hard as he laid unconscious and Bri laughed excitedly while hugging herself.

“Oh, this was so fun!! I can’t wait to do this again! I didn’t kill him this time, I wanted to but didn’t. He seems so perfect. Maybe I’ll keep him around for another game later… For now.”
