Snow Forest

The snow fell softly, like an array of small feathers engulfing the sounds of nature. The dense woodland was eerily quiet as River took her first step, sinking into the light, powdery snow. Peace encumbered her, and a wave of calm swept over the entire forest. Step after step, the woods swallowed her. If she hadn't a sense of direction, you could say she was lost. But she knew these woods, she's walked their paths many times. She was home.

The snow began to get heavier, when she heard a soft croak in the distance. A raven. She strolled forward, his husky voice daunting her to find him. Sitting upon a narrow branch of a bushy sapling, the raven peered down on her - and he spoke to her.

"There is me. There is you, and there is us. Nothing more."

River stood mesmerized by the ravens beauty, dark shimmers of blue as the snow thawed down his warm feathers. She hadn't the time to question the raven, he opened his enormous wings and went like the wind into the snow-filled skies; losing sight of him among the towering trees. She was alone once again.

As River turned around and began walking back through the powdery landscape, she remembered a story her grandmother once told her about the Prophecy Raven; a good omen baring high intuition and clairvoyance. "If you are ever so lucky to come upon it's presence, listen to the wise words he entails to you." Grandmother had spoken.
