Slim Pickings
Searching for my next victim
I flick through the possibilities on the online dating site, looking, hoping, hunting.
Miss Right’s out there somewhere but boy am I having trouble finding her.
Ooooooooo she looks a bit of alright. Flick to the right.
Flick, flick, flick — oh, look she’s even better. I’ll send this one a quick message.
“Hello beautiful, can I interest you in dinner at a nice restaurant on the beach?”
The next day I receive a response, but she’s only interested in a coffee at the local cafe.
I’ll pass as she’s way too cautious, too safety conscious — that won’t fulfil my needs.
I was challenged to write a drabble of the word 'cafe'.
Wikipedia defines a drabble as follows :
A drabble is a short work of fiction of precisely one hundred words in length. The purpose of the drabble is brevity, testing the author's ability to express interesting and meaningful ideas in a confined space.

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
