Kaito woke up with a throbbing pain in his head and a swirling feeling in his stomach, as though he was about to vomit. He used his right hand to grasp his temple, in an attempt to alleviate the pain he felt. Failing that, he removed his hand, and it took with it a clump of his black hair, which was matted and wet. Feeling it in his hand, Kaito slowly opened his eyes, looking around at his surroundings as he grew used to both the bright florescent lighting and the intense pain he felt.

Once he was able to see, he found that he was on one of Japan's bullet trains, and it was moving. Quickly. He also found that he was alone in his car, which was uncharacteristic of the public transport. Looking out his window, he was easily able to determine why, though, as night appeared to have fallen hours before. He moved his wrist to check his watch and found it to be missing, and his suit's sleeve was tattered and ripped. The same was true of his other sleeve, and, he assumed, the rest of his clothes.

As he regained more of his bearings, he remembered to check for more of his items. The briefcase he took to work was also missing, present neither in the seats near him, the overhead, nor the floor around him. As he looked for it, he found too that his shoes were also missing and his socks and bottoms of his pant legs were as destroyed as his sleeves.

In the night, bizarrely, Kaito found himself unable to see anything - no shapes or silhouettes, city lights, or even any parts of the train were visible. The bullet train simply sped throughout wherever it was, zooming past shapeless nothingness as Kaito scrambled to find any semblance of normalcy in his surroundings, utterly failing to do so.

After a while, he noticed that although the car was completely empty, he could not hear any of the normal sounds which would be associated with an empty train moving at such high speeds. The sound of the wheels against the tracks and the light shaking of the car were both completely absent.

Kaito looked towards the back, then the front, of the car, and found that it was missing some of the key components that were standard fair in the train. There were no speakers for announcements to be made over, and every seat lacked any coloration besides a light beige tone or tray tables. As a matter of fact, the train was completely bare of anything except the plain seats themselves.

It was at this point when Kaito truly began to panic. Now not only did he not know how he had gotten wherever he was, but he was completely unsure of what exactly the place he found himself in was. He began to breathe frantically, murmuring to himself as he did so to relax, even though he knew that there was not a chance of that actually happening in the current circumstances. Lacking any items to occupy his hands, he found himself pulling at the tatters of his suit sleeves in a vain effort to calm himself to at least some degree.

As he panicked, feeling himself reach his breaking point, a blinding white light suddenly began to fill the train, temporarily rendering him unable to see as a result of its intensity. As he grew accustomed to the new level of brightness, Kaito felt the train slowly decrease in speed. After a short amount of time that felt like hours, it had come to a complete stop, and the light had increased in brightness even further.

Suddenly, the doors flung open, letting the light fill the train car completely. Instinctively, but cautiously, Kaito approached the exit. Seeing solid ground outside it, he decided the best choice was to step out. He found himself in a grassy field, devoid of anything else except a large puddle in front of him. He approached the water, standing at the edge and looking into it. He did not know what compelled him to do so, but something inside him told him that what he was doing was correct.

Inside the puddle, he saw the image of a man, who appeared to be suspended in water - a drowning victim, by the looks of him. Kaito jumped back in shock at first, then was compelled to return for another look at the unfortunate soul. Looking closer, he saw that the man was dressed in a grey business suit, with a steel briefcase gripped tightly in his right hand. Looking even closer, Kaito's suspicions were confirmed when he saw on that same wrist exactly what he had feared he might: his own watch.

I got into it from the very start. Your story has a dream-like quality, that feels sort of spooky but compelling. I think I should love to read more of your work.
