She Was Only 13, A Story of Innocence Lost
How do you tell the story of a girl who never got the chance to grow up, to dream, to live?

Yes, this is the story of that 13 year old girl. (Let’s call her Maya)
Maya used to study in 9th grade. She was the only child of her parents their entire world wrapped up in her laughter and bright eyes.Maya’s days were filled with school, homework, and dreams of the future.
As usal on a Saturday she told her mom that she would go to her friend’s house to study, taking her books and notes with her on her own bicycle. It was a simple plan, she had followed many weekends before also. So, mom let her go. Maya and mom bothe of them waved eachother, Maya smile was bright as ever, and rode off into the distance. Who know, that would be the last time anyone would see her smile again.
She went to her friend’s house, where her friend and her sister lived.Maya and her friend sat together, studying, joking, and helping each other with their schoolwork. As usual, her friend’s sister cooked food for them, and both of them enjoyed the meal together, chatting and laughing as they ate.
Maya looked at the clock, realizing how quickly time had passed.Surprised by how fast the hours flew by she told her friend, “I have to head home now, or my mom will worry.”
Her friend helped her to grabbed books and she waved goodbye to her friend and her sister. She hopped onto her bicycle, ready to head back home.
As she pedaled along the familiar road, she felt a sense of calm, nothing out of the ordinary. She was a 13-year-old girl walking home, thinking about the homework she had to complete later and the things she had planned for the coming week.
On her way home, she had to pass through the saccharum officinarum (sugarcane) farm and the park. She was happy until she lost control from her bycycle. In an instant she fell, the world spinning as she hit the ground of the sugarcane field.
As Maya was struggling to stand up after falling, two men appeared standing in the shade of the sugarcane field. These men were from well family (wealthy). At first they just watched, but then their intentions became clear. Instead of offering help, their actions reveal dangerous intentions. Maya was still distraught and frightened, tried to retreat, but the men advanced. Fear surged through her, and she realized that her world had suddenly turned from one of safety into one of terror.
They trapped her, tying her hands with the ropes used to bundle the sugarcane. The previously familiar surroundings now felt suffocating, and she was powerless to stop what was happening. Maya’s heart raced as she tried to scream for help. But before she could make a sound, one of the men quickly covered her mouth with his shirt to silenced her.
Her world turned when they dragged her into the middle of a sugarcan field. Maya tried to break free but fear and helplessness gripped her. She couldn’t understand how this was happening. She wanted to go home, to feel safe again, but now she was trapped in a place she had never been afraid of before. (“silence occur even more”)
As hours passed, Maya’s mother became worried. It was late, the daughter had not returned home. She called Maya’s friend hoping to find out where she had gone but she said that Maya had left home hours ago. Night appeared but Maya did not came. Her worried parents searched the neighnorhood, asking everyone. No one had seen her. With each passing moment their fear grew, until the night turned into the cold morning.
The next morning, a laborer on his way to a nearby sugarcane field for his usual morning routine finds something horrifying. It was Maya. She lay lifeless among the sugarcane stalks, abandoned and alone. The worker rushed to inform the others, but it was already too late. The news spread quickly, and the horror of what had happened became undeniable.
Maya’s parents were called, and the reality of what had happened to their daughter began to set in. The investigators soon arrived, and the scene made it painfully clear — Maya’s innocence had been stolen.
The emotional devastation of losing a child, in such an incomprehensible and cruel way, was now met with the question of how such a tragedy could be prevented in the future. The truth, painful as it was, had to be uncovered Maya’s story would not be silenced, and her family vowed to seek justice for the love and light she had brought into the world.
“But despite their efforts, the system failed them. The justice they seek for her daughter never came. The society sense of security was shattered, and the pain of this injustice hung as it is. Maya’s story was one of lost innocence, a young girl whose life was taken before it had a chance to fully begin.”
