She Preens In Delight
Drabble Drop : Rainbow
She’s stuck in a cage in the window of a pet shop, invisible to all. She sits on the bottom in despair, wishing for someone to notice her, love her, take her home.
Day after day she sits and waits.
But today feels different. The sun rose early, warming the window. As she preened her rainbow coloured feathers, a small girl stopped, watching her through the window, giggling in glee.
Then the child pulls her father into the pet shop to see the beautiful bird and much to her delight they decided she’d make a perfect addition to the family.
I was challenged to write a drabble of the word ‘rainbow'.
Wikipedia defines a drabble as follows :
A drabble is a short work of fiction of precisely one hundred words in length. The purpose of the drabble is brevity, testing the author's ability to express interesting and meaningful ideas in a confined space.

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
