Servant of the People
In Search of a Livable Wage
SADLY, WE LIVE IN A WORLD WHERE I SHOULD POST THIS DISCLAIMER: THIS STORY IS PURELY FANTASY AND IN NO WAY ADVOCATES THE KIDNAPPING AND/OR HARM OF AN ELECTED OFFICIAL!! (THE FINGERPRINT PART IS BASED ON REALITY, THOUGH!)
The plan came to Kathy while she was having her fingerprints scanned for another human service job clearance. The technician had quipped that reading the fingerprints of maids and medical professionals over 50 was always difficult due to chemical exposure and frequent handwashing.
Kathy had recently invited the state senator to the group home to see how her limited staff struggled to care for three men with disabilities. Not only did the senator vote against increasing staff ratios and funding for salaries, but he stood her up at the last minute in favor of a photo op at a local brewery!
Well, if the mountain won’t come to Mohammed.....
Kathy thought of the cabin in the woods that her estranged husband recently left to her and made a list of action steps...
1.Get old wheelchair out of the garage.
2.Hotwire the wheelchair van.
3. Pick up the drunk senator after a party.
4. Duct tape the senator in the wheelchair.
5. Feed, bathe, and care for the senator as a man with disabilities in a group home with limited, overworked, underpaid, and stressed-out staff.
Unfortunately, Kathy did not realize that wheelchair vans do not make inconspicuous getaway cars!
