Seeker
Every night the moon disappears for a minute, during that one minute no one can lie.
“Where were you last night?” Yvenia asks.
Her hand resting on the hilt of her sword.
“I was nowhere but the garden.” Amara says.
“I see that you think I’m some fool.”
“I never implied that you were a fool, seeker.”
Yvenia walks around the dungeon cell. Her fingers tracing the cold window. The light of the moon slowly vanishes into the dark sky.
Next the candles were lit. Yvenia’s aid Nolan holds them in his hand and the crafty scribe Onia keeps track of every detail.
“Now, let me ask you again. Where were you last night?”
And like a woman whose life flashes before her eyes, she says,
“The old witches house.”
“Why?”
“I wanted revenge.”
“Why?”
“For that illegitimate sister of mine.”
“Are you insinuating that you envy your sister?”
“Envy is an understatement. I loathe her. She’s nothing but a waste of air and a headache for our county.”
Yvenia hums. Tapping the hilt of her sword. The moon will soon return.
“Is the witch currently listening to us?”
Amara’s breath hitches before whispering,
“Yes.”
The moment the moon had come back, Amara had rocked herself on the metal chair. Wrists stretching to break the metal binds on her arms.
“Curse you!” The first phrase is a normal voice.
“Curse you!” The second phrase is a normal but more scratchy voice.
“ Curse you!” The third phrase is a deep and scratchy voice.
Yvenia slightly smiled,
“There’s those eyes.”
Amara’s eyes flashed red.
A classic sign of a corrupted soul.
She had been possessed and it seems like she has no intentions of letting it out.
“Whose your master? Yvenia asks.
“I do not obey anyone.” The creature sneered.
“I see.”
She hummed a tune. Circling the creature. Its huffs and growls proceed to get scratchier by the second.
“Holy water.” Yvenia asks.
The creature's eyes changed to slits. When her assistant Nolan splashes a handful of drops onto its face. A slow steam began to emit from Amara’s face.
“I will ask again, who is your master?”
Before the creature could respond, the candle went out. As well as all the other torches that lit up the dungeon halls.
“I see you called for me.” A woman says.
Her figure was nowhere to be around. The creature began to shudder in its seat. Lips stretched out into a nonhuman grin.
“Do you refuse to show yourself?” Yvenia asks.
“I do.”
“I understand.”
Where the moon shone on the stony wall, a shadow had passed by.
“However, do not take me for a fool.” Yvenia sharply says.
She pulls out her sword, cutting off a path.
The voice had involuntarily revealed itself. A tall slender woman with a long black gown.
“Hello, I presume you’re the old witch?” Yvenia smiled.
“You presume correct. No point in lying to a seeker.”
“What is that you desire?”
The old witch smiled.
“Chaos.”
The creature in the seat began to cackle. The word ‘chaos’ seemed to have an effect on it.
“Where did you two meet?”
“In the dark.”
Yvenia tilted her sword up, drawing blood from her index finger. The creature did not react. However, as she whirled around and slashed a prisoner being escorted on the chest.
The creature began to shift in its seat. Tugging at the restraints to break out.
It’s laughter, a mix of delight and terror.
The seeker knew.
“Dellamo.”
The creature stiffened up.
Yvenia smiled. The old witch raised her hand, a cold shadow relieving the Dellamo from its binds. It lunges at the weakest. Nolan. Her assistant threw the rest of the holy water but as its face burned, it still reached towards him.
Yvenia had raised her sword up, her sword cleanly taking its head off.
The old witch had then vanished. Yvenia sighed. After taking a potion she chased after the woman. With the old witch thinking she’s in the clear, she heads to a cemetery.
“What a dangerous seeker.” The woman scoffed.
“That I am.” Yvenia says.
The woman flinched, whipping her head back.
“I had teleported. How did you find me?”
Yvenia did not answer. She simply raised her sword.
“Our laws state that we must not frolic with those who come from darkness.”
“I am those with darkness. I am a witch!”
“So am I.”
“Seekers are witches who hunt their own kind! Traitors to our community!”
“Seekers are those who protect the innocent from evil.”
“Humans??”
“Humans.”
“I see that you have connections.”
Ghouls surrounding them. However Yvenia had not shown fear. She snapped. Creating an invisible box surrounding them. Anyone, apart from the living or not, shall not hear a word.
“You must be punished for your atrocities.”
“I do not have any!”
“You have plenty.”
The old witch tried to use her magic, and instantly her magic heart began to squeeze.
“Nothing good comes from lying.”
“Nothing good comes from a seeker.”
The old witch had lunged at Yvenia.
“I’ll take you down in the name of Hollow!”
Yvenia had kicked the woman down. The box she made disappeared.
“And if Hollow can hear me, control your subjects.”
The old witch smiled at the sign of the cemetery rumbling. The king of the underworld has heard. And the old witch had pointed at the woman in front of her.
“You’re finished!”
Yvenia glanced at the woman's feet. What was smooth had turned wrinkly.
“Am I?’
The woman had matched her gaze, before screaming. Every part of her that was youthful had been removed. Her age has caught up with her.
“Why? Why?!”
Yvenia smiled.
“Perhaps your kind does not want to have anything to do with this.”\
“This is your doing!” The woman screamed
“Your actions were your undoing.”
The ghouls had begun to disperse at the sight. The old witch was alone.
As the moon rose high, so did Yvenia’s sword. And as the old witch screamed curses at her Yvenia raised her sword and brought it down, coating it red.
“May the damned welcome you with open arms.”
