Kay looked at the photos of her husband in astonishment. She couldn't believe her eyes as she looked at the pictures of her husband's father, grandfather, great grandfather, and even his great-great-grandfather and the realization that they all looked like carbon copies of each other. All the men looked like identical twins at the exact same points in their lives. Kay knew that her husband's family had lived in the same area of England for hundreds of years and had built a massive fortune through land acquisition.

Kay's husband's family has been part of the British aristocracy for generations and enjoys a close relationship with the monarchy. They have been rewarded for their loyalty with prestigious titles and wealth. In any other circumstances, Kay's life was a fairy tale, but it always seemed peculiar that her husband appeared wiser and more intelligent than other men his age. It felt like he lived a far longer life than his outward appearances would make you believe.

As Kay sat in her chair, she allowed her mind to wonder why she never met her husband's mother. His mother died at childbirth, and it seemed like all the women in the family died. Additionally, her husband's father died soon after their marriage. Kay realized that her husband had no siblings as well. How did her husband's family build such incredible wealth and prestigious titles when his family has always been tiny? All the men died around their fiftieth birthday soon after their sons married, but none of them died in battle throughout England's violent history. How could such a family become rich and powerful, and more importantly, be so close to the monarchy?

To Kay, everything about her husband and his family seemed supernatural. She wondered if she needed to fear for her own safety. Kay had been married for only two years, and her husband spoke about having a child. When Kay asked him if he wanted a big family, he seemed to avoid the conversation. It appears Kay's husband was content with having only a single child like all generations in his family. As Kay thought to herself, she couldn't figure out how each man in her husband's family looked like identical twins. Her understanding of genetics told her that was not possible unless generations of identical twin males and females married each generation and produced children. That would allow exact replicas of their DNA to pass from generation to generation; however, at some point, as Kay realized, that would not be possible or, worse, mean generational incest.

Not knowing what to think anymore, Kay felt she needed to confront her husband. Kay was scared that something terrible would happen to her and that she would suffer the same fate of all the women in her husband's family – dying in childbirth.

Kay's husband listened as she laid out her suspicions. Finally, when Kay finished, her husband spoke. He stated that to others, Kay's suspicions would be too far-fetched to believe, but the truth was even more unbelievable. Kay asked him if it were something he would share or would she go to her grave, never knowing. He replied that modern medical technology meant that her future could be different, but his future would remain the same as his father's before.

Kay's husband revealed that he was a clone of his father and that all the men in his family's history were clones. Kay's husband said It started a long time ago, and no one knew for sure; however, some myths and legends tied the phenomenon to Merlin's lore. According to his family records held in secret, his family dates to the Roman occupation of England and has seen the development of the country of the Anglo-Saxons and Viking wars, Norman conquest, and the rise of the British Empire. He explained that since his family were clones of each proceeding generation, they kept extensive records of the country's history to include very detailed records of the monarchy. Therefore, his family is very close to the monarch because they protect their secrets.

Kay asked why his mother died young. He responded that when his father impregnated his mother with his clone DNA, her DNA in the egg is erased and simply becomes a host. He explained that like a virus taking over a host cell, his DNA does the same thing, and sadly the host passes away upon childbirth. However, he said that modern medicine means that her fate does not have to be the same.

Kay asked if she is not fated to die, does it change the family's destiny. He said he did not know, but he was willing to take the risk. Kay then asked is there was a reason everyone in his family all has the same name. He replied yes. She said were all of you are named Arthur for a reason like the legend of the "Once and Future King?" Kay's husband winked, and she finally understood.
