Bang!
Was that a gunshot?
Everybody in the room scatters, trying to find somewhere to hide. Somewhere safe.
Sally hides under the table, trembling.
Julia crouches behind the sofa, barely breathing.
Tom skitters into the closet but doesn’t have time to pull the door closed, feverently praying.
Phillip stands tucked behind the door, sobbing in fear.
Lennon is standing in the middle of the room. Frozen in shock and unable to move.
Every single person is sure they’re about to die.
Suddenly Summer bounds into the room giggling. “Sorry guys, I accidentally burst a balloon. Didn’t mean to scare you.”

I was challenged to write a drabble of the word ‘balloon'.
Wikipedia defines a drabble as follows :
A drabble is a short work of fiction of precisely one hundred words in length. The purpose of the drabble is brevity, testing the author's ability to express interesting and meaningful ideas in a confined space.

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
