She paced alone amoung the sterile blue chairs. Hands twisting around one another.
I had to destroy the hope she held. I had no choice. It shone in her emerald eyes.
"Mrs. Donnell?"
She swallowed hard as she nodded.
With a gesture I indicated she should sit, she deflated sinking back down.
"Your son didn't make it," I could feel my own throat constrict. "I hate to ask this now, time is not on our side."
The unshed tears in her eyes begged me to let her be. But I couldn't.
"Would you consent to donating your son's organs?"
