Salubrious part 29
Smiling Friends
Hot pink cut-crease.
Allan had pictured this moment with fantastic glee, thinking back to the moment when everything had been built in his mind. The moment when Charlie unintentionally made Allan realize how romantic he really was hidden under all the layers of sarcasm, bro language and humor:
“Well this one was so stupidly romantic in a ridiculous way. But, that one part when she was coming out in that red dress. It was dumb but the whole opera motif thing got to me. Those movies are so manipulative,” Charlie explained.
Allan remembered that so vividly especially since that conversation was months ago, and even more especially how that scene in Pretty Woman accidentally made Charlie gush secretly over the over-the-top romance.
It was the day that marked their official two month anniversary. Charlie had kissed him when they woke up as usual, giving him a nice watch and a new tie, which he said, “That isn’t even the tip of the iceberg,” to Allan. This confused Allan but he knew that after breakfast, Charlie leaving to, “run errands,” made things feel more natural and more exciting.
Allan had some of his clothing at Charlie’s house but they were not officially living together. While Charlie was out of the apartment, Allan started getting ready for dinner. He blasted the song, 30 For 30 by SZA on repeat, carefully putting on the lashes. He put finishing touches on the pink cut-crease for his eyes. He put on some moisturizer, a bit of concealer and some foundation before applying a glossy pink lipgloss, eye liner and a very soft perfume. Then, holding spray to keep it all together.
Hopefully, to keep himself all together too.
He had the best surprise for when they planned to meet later that night for dinner. But, that was a few hours from now. He had some work to do, and to make sure everything was done by the dinner date planned at 6:30.
While he was meticulously getting ready he was lip singing to the tune, dancing a little, thinking of the first time Charlie saw him cross dressing casually.
Staying over Charlie’s one weekend(this was toward the beginning of their starting relationship), he had brought some oversized sweater dresses, nightgowns and extra clothes so he’d be comfortable.
He didn’t think much on it, putting on a light lavender oversized sweater dress when it got closer to bed.
Charlie had went to the bathroom and saw Allan in a lavender dress, looking cozy and expectantly at him.
“The levels on your air freshener are going down. You may need to refill it soon. I also started dinner. No more fast food,” Allan said causally.
Charlie’s eyes widened, but he said nothing, nodding. He bit his finger, looking at Allan with a curious expression.
“Dinner?” Charlie answered finally.
“Um, yes,” Allan said, going to the kitchen. Charlie followed.
“Uh, Allan?”
Allan turned. “What?”
“Well, that… where did you get that dress?”
Allan shrugged. “My closet. I brought over some stuff I need.”
Charlie nodded. “It fits you… well.”
Allan smiled. “I tried it on before I bought it.”
Charlie blushed. “Cool. Good. Uh, so when will dinner be ready?”
Allan realized Charlie wasn’t going to make this into a big deal, which made him instantly relax. It was like when he was dressed in heels and full costume for anime con, dress and everything, and Pim seemed unfazed and supportive. But this was more important than anything or anyone else because this moment defined their future together.
Allan didn’t realize just how much importance he was putting on this, until he saw Charlie’s slightly curious, surprised yet supportive response… mixed with unexpected understanding.
He smiled, “Um, well, in about an hour.”
Charlie gave him a thumbs up. “Great. I’m fucking starved like a horse. Or something.”
Allan really felt like he could be himself fully around Charlie at that point. There was show, no pomp, no drama. Just, “When will dinner be ready?”
He was almost ready for tonight too.💅
