Are you going to try to kill it?
“No, not on sacred ground.”
I thought I was thinking to myself. Dax focused on me, and not the escaped bunny hopping past his kennel.
“Did you just speak?!”
Dax barked at my unintentional command, saying nothing. I was concerned for the rabbit’s safety, but it disregarded the dog.
“Dax, if you can talk, say something.”
Dax stared at me with his usual, empty expression: no words.
I shook off the weirdness of the situation. Walking towards home, I greeted the barn cat with pets.
“Dogs can’t talk,” the same voice said.
