Stream It Or Skip It: ‘Rich in Love’

The story revolves around Teto (Danilo Mequita), who happens to be the heir to an immense fortune derived from tomatoes. Yes, you read that correctly. His father (Ernani Moraes) is a powerful tomato tycoon with laboratories dedicated to tomato engineering, a luxurious mansion on a tomato farm, and an entire tomato corporation. In the film's opening scene, the older man gives a tour of the greenhouse to some investors and surprises them with their new marketing venture—an extravagant tomato juice fountain. However, when he opens the door, they discover a sauce-covered couple engaged in an intimate act within the fountain. It's a truly comical sight, let me assure you.

Now, let's rewind to one month earlier. Teto wakes up next to a woman he had a casual encounter with the previous night (who, I must emphasize, is not a tomato). He promptly asks his best friend Igor (Jaffar Bambirra), whose parents work as tomato groundskeepers, to escort her out. There is a routine for Teto. It is his birthday, and he plans to celebrate it as the Tomato Festival's grand event, where he will engage in a massive tomato fight and enjoy a concert featuring a DJ who raps about—you guessed it—tomatoes. After all, what else could be worthy of rapping about?

During this tomato-filled extravaganza, Teto and Igor have a falling out. Igor confronts Teto about his privileged lifestyle, accusing him of taking everything for granted, not putting in any effort or hard work, and being an arrogant, self-satisfied womanizer who deserves a major reality check. (That's my assessment.) This conversation proves significant when Teto crosses paths with Paula (Giovanna Lancellotti). Now, how do they meet? Their initial encounter is not without a touch of whimsy, as they cross paths in an amusing incident involving a flying tomato. As you probably guessed, that's Chappens. Anyway, Teto fibs to Paula, claiming he is poor, which sets the stage for a series of games and deception when they go on dates, and she inevitably wants to visit his place.

Simultaneously, Teto and Igor embark on an even more ludicrous scheme. Since nobody at the headquarters of International Amalgamated Tomato Conglomerates Inc. knows Teto, he decides to start from the bottom as a trainee instead of relying on his father's influence to secure a cushy job. Here's the twist: Teto and Igor agree to switch identities to gain insight into each other's lives.

This absurd scenario entangles Monique (Lelle), a junior executive who gets fired but forms a spiritual bond with Teto, and Alana (Fernanda Paes Leme), the alluring coordinator of the tomato trainee program. Meanwhile, Paula, who just completed medical school, hopes to land a residency at a hospital where she faces unwanted advances from a handsy doctor. Her friends and fellow aspiring doctors Raissa (Bruna Griphao) and Katia (Jeniffer Dias) occasionally slip something into his coffee to slow him down. It's a recipe for utter pandemonium, my friends. Pure pandemonium.
