“Are you coming? It’s Valentine’s Day,” the text message said. Her heart couldn’t be happier. Was he inviting her for a romantic lunch together? “Bring some food and hurry up. I am waiting,” a second message obviously revealed this was not a romantic invitation but rather a demand.

It was so typical. He always wanted everything now and fast. “Fast, fast, fast!,” his mantra was. There was never a moment to relax. He was impatient, bossy, bad-tempered, and yet she loved him like crazy.

She packed a few things in her bag and went to buy some food to cook a Valentine’s lunch. That was pretty much the implied plan, and she knew it. She bought him a heart-shaped chocolate, too. Because, who said that only men can give chocolates to their girlfriends on Valentine’s Day?

She took a tram to his house. It was cold and snowy. It was one of those last snows before spring that seemed to never end. After lunch, they went for a walk to a nearby park. They saw a couple with a small child and a baby walking toward them.

"You are old, you are ugly, you can't have children!," he yelled. "Go away! Leave me alone!" He yelled and everyone around turned their heads. All the eyes were on her.

She was frozen. She didn't say anything. He left running fast, leaving her standing there. Alone. It was snowing heavily now. She was ashamed but she didn't know what her crime was.

Thanks so much for sharing your story!

  • That was so sad. He sounds like he may be mentally disturbed. I like the way you wrote this. You added contradictions so that in some points it seemed like this was a positive story but then it turned negative. You also added triggers that brought on this behavior in him.
