Mysterious Glow

An eerie dawn woke the dig director and Trudy extra early. All of the Echo Team didn’t take long to gather together soon after instructions were given to follow Damian. They were all going armed to the teeth with rifles and shotguns that had been packed on the sledge.

After hooking up the dog team to the rig, Damian, with hyper concern, told Dr. Stonewell, “I’d like to offer that we skip this parade and find another cave or likely digging area instead of this one.”

Cody spoke to his side kick digger saying, “Damian, there is little danger to check out some rocks and a cave and if we do have followers or other treasure seekers then they’ll probably need to be dealt with sooner than later. Lets go ahead and do this! Listen, after 5 minutes wait time you can tell one of the other guys to start out on the dog sled, so we can march ahead first rather than trying to keep up with the dogs.”

Damian reluctantly agreed. He took the most powerful rifle they had to allay his nerves. The Bushmaster BA 50 was the best gun this Team could afford on their meager grant allowances.

Time for investigating that rock pile and get to the bottom of the mystery of why, when and who put it there, Trudy took her rifle and stood behind Damian and told him to start off walking. Martialing their thermoses of coffee as well as guns, the human half of the Team set out at a lively pace, faces determined, steamy breaths as rapid as their strides.

Every idea of a fight vanished once Damian saw that the condition of this stone marker had changed completely. The stones were scattered randomly in all directions as if someone had blown them off the spot with a high powered wind machine, well, the wind had kicked up during the night. Damian scratched his head at the weird glowing spot where they had been. It looked as if there was a tendril of the emerald glow extending towards the cave entry.

. . .

Cody shouted to the Echo Team to jog for the rest of the next few minutes to catch up with Damian. The wind had become a bit fierce to be heard over.

Trudy decided to stop the sled and detach the lead dog before looking with them, and staked him to the snow with a pole for his leash. The rest of the dogs would lay down where they stopped until the leader was rehitched to the rig.

All eyes caught what Damian had seen and in short order took samples of the glowing snow and ice. Upon measuring they found it to be off the EMF reader scale and even a slight bit radioactive. How strange, and they all spoke at once!
