Livestream Gone Wrong

Let me set the scene for you: It’s a warm, lazy Saturday afternoon, and the world is scrolling through its phones in search of memes, drama, or makeup hacks. I, Raven, am holding a camera, sweating bullets as I record my best friend Pandora, a rising beauty influencer, during what was supposed to be her big break.

It’s funny—how quickly things can fall apart. But at the start of the livestream, we had no idea just how big of a disaster this was going to be.

“Hey, gorgeous people!” Pandora chirps into the camera, her high-energy persona dialed up to maximum. She’s perched on a purple velvet chair, surrounded by perfectly staged plants and LED string lights spelling out her Instagram handle: @PandorasGlam.

“We’re doing something special today,” she says in a sing-song voice, flicking her long lashes for effect. “I received this mysterious, one-of-a-kind PR package, and I just had to unbox it live for all of you!”

Chat explodes.

~Omg, what’s in the box?!

~Exclusive drop??

~Pandora, you’re glowing today, queen!

Everything feels normal. Perfect, even. I zoom in on her flawless, dewy skin and her signature winged eyeliner—sharp enough to slice through bad vibes. The PR package sits beside her on the table, a dark wooden box with intricate carvings. The weird thing is, we don’t know who sent it. No brand name, no logo. Just a cryptic note: For Pandora’s eyes only. I figured it was just some gimmicky indie company trying to make a statement, and Pandora, never one to miss out on rare products, was hooked.

“Sooooo mysterious, right?” she coos, running her perfectly manicured nails along the box’s edges.

I can’t help but roll my eyes behind the camera. The influencer world is all about firsts—the first to review a new lipstick, the first to announce a collaboration, the first to go viral. Pandora thrives on it, and honestly, she’s good at it.

She places her fingers on the box’s latch, glances at me, then back at the camera. “Are you ready?”

Chat is losing it.

~DO ITTTT!

~What if it’s haunted?

~Open it already omg!!!

Even I was getting twitchy with anticipation. With a dramatic pause, she flips the latch and lifts the lid.

At first, nothing happens.

Inside, nestled on a bed of deep red silk, is a collection of tiny jars, each labeled with impressively neat handwritten tags: Envy, Wrath, Greed, Lust, Despair, and more. Honestly, it looks like some over-the-top skincare line trying to be edgy. The jars glisten like little bottles of temptation, each with a shimmering, mysterious substance inside.

“Whoa,” Pandora breathes. “This is… oddly intense.”

Chat is eating it up.

~Goth-core serum line? Yass!

~Looks like a potion set. What is it??

~Try one!!

Pandora giggles, because of course she’s going to try one. She’s built her career on testing products on the spot, no matter how weird they seem.

“This one’s labeled Envy,” she says, holding up a glowing green jar. “I bet it’s some kind of face mask. Let’s see if it makes my skin glow.”

“Are you sure about this?” I whisper from behind the camera. “It doesn’t even have instructions.”

“Relax, Raven,” she whispers back. “It’s probably just some attempt at a viral marketing stunt.”

Before I can argue, she dips her finger into the jar and spreads the silky green substance along her jawline. For a second, it sparkles like magic. Then it absorbs into her skin.

…And that’s when things get weird. Well, weirder.

Pandora’s eyes flash—a brief, eerie green glow. She blinks it away and shakes her head as if she’s dizzy. “Whoa, I feel a little funny,” she says with a nervous laugh.

Chat explodes.

~Is that supposed to happen?!

~What was that glow??

~New serum or alien experiment?

“Guys, it’s fine,” Pandora says, waving off the concern. “Let’s try another one.”

“Please don’t,” I say quickly, but she’s already reaching for the next jar—Wrath, a fiery red liquid swirling like molten lava. Before I can stop her, she dabs a small amount onto her cheeks, treating it like blush.

And that’s when she snaps.

“WHY is this chair so uncomfortable?” she yells, kicking it aside. “And why do people think they can leave negative comments on my videos when I work so hard?”

She storms toward me, glaring into the lens. “Do you even know how stressful this is, Raven? Holding that camera like you’re Steven Spielberg doesn’t make you special!”

My jaw drops. Pandora never talks to me like this. I glance at the chat, which is moving too fast to read, but it’s clear the viewers are witnessing the meltdown of the century.

“Pandora, stop!” I shout, stepping back. But she’s already reaching for the next jar: Greed. With shaky hands, she rubs it along her temples. Her eyes flash gold this time, and suddenly, she’s shoving makeup palettes, lipsticks, and skincare products into her bag like a dragon hoarding treasure.

“This is MINE!” she growls. “I deserve it all. No one’s taking this from me.”

Panic courses through me. I need to stop her, but the jars seem to have a life of their own now, glowing brighter, their lids trembling as if ready to burst open. Pandora’s reach is faster than I am—she grabs Despair, applying it like under-eye cream, and within seconds, tears are streaming down her face.

“I’m a failure,” she sobs. “Everyone’s going to unfollow me. I’ll never get another brand deal again.”

The chat is a mix of confusion, concern, and memes:

~What is happening???

~Call an exorcist.

~This is better than reality TV!

Desperate, I sprint toward the table, knocking over jars in my attempt to close the box. But it’s too late. The jars tip over, spilling their contents across the table, the floor, and Pandora’s trembling hands.

A thick, black mist begins to fill the room, swirling like a storm.

Pandora looks at me through tear-streaked mascara. “I messed up, Raven. I really messed up.”

Suddenly, from within the chaos, a single golden glow appears. A small jar, previously unnoticed, rolls toward my foot. I pick it up and read the label: Hope.

Without thinking, I unscrew the lid and smear the golden substance across Pandora’s hands. Instantly, the mist begins to fade. Her breathing calms, her sobs quiet, and the jars stop glowing.

Silence falls.

The chat, for once, is still.

Pandora blinks, her eyes returning to their normal warm brown. “What… just happened?”

“We, well you, unleashed chaos,” I say, collapsing into the chair she kicked earlier. “On a livestream, no less.”

Her eyes widen. “Oh my God. The viewers—”

I check the screen. Thousands are still watching, but most are spamming heart emojis and comments like:

~Best unboxing ever.

~What PR package is this?? Need.

~I thought this was an ARG—guess not!

Pandora lets out a half-laugh, half-sob. “Well, I guess I’ll never be forgotten.”

“Definitely not,” I reply, grinning despite myself.

As the final remnants of the mist vanish, she looks at the closed box. “We’re getting rid of that, right?”

“Yeah, good idea.”

And that’s how Pandora’s most chaotic livestream went down in history—not as a failure, but as a viral success.
