Gemma looked up from her book in alarm as a choking sob ripped through the air. A woman sat close on the park bench, fat tears plopping onto her phone screen. Gemma looked around awkwardly, but they were alone.
‘Do you want to talk about it?’ she asked hesitantly, a twist of doubt in her gut. She might only make the situation worse.
‘He’s married,’ the woman laughed bitterly, bringing her phone closer, ‘Why are men such pigs?’
Gemma’s awkward, fake laugh caught in her throat, cutting off air, as she recognized the photos of her own wedding.
