They tell me she’s not real.

That she is but a delusion of my own mind.

Yet I hear her day and night.

She calls me.

Invites me.

Into the dark blue of the ocean tide

Beckons me to the rocky crag beyond the ice.

Where we can not sail.

She is real. Her voice is real.

Her song, so beautiful.

And she loves me.

I feel it. I know it.

The floor is bitterly cold under my bare feet as I make my way up to the main deck. I should have put something warmer on, the wind is cutting.

But I don’t care. I must go to her. I hear the pain in her voice as strongly as I feel it in my heart.

I must find her. Be with her. She’s all that matters to me.

“Stop! John!!”

I have to be quick, they don’t want me to leave them. They want me to stay and work. They don’t care about love. None of them care. Drunks, the lot of them.

Not me. Not I.

No.

“Fuck, mate, STOP! John!!

All hands on deck!! Now. Now!

EMERGENCY ON THE PORT BOW”

I have to move quickly now. They want to keep me prisoner on this ship. For king and country and whatever bullshit that even means.

No.

I won’t stay.

I’m going to my Lorelei. She sings for me. I just need to work out…

“Aargh no. Get off me. GET OFF! You have no right…”

“John, mate, stay calm. You gotta come back inside”

“Noooo. Unhand me, NOW!”

Everything is spinning. They are grabbing at me. I can’t see clearly but I fight. I fight with every ounce of my strength and break free.

It’s now or never. I have to jump. I have to go into the icy waters to find my Lorelie. She will save me. She will bring me ashore.

Aaaarghhhhhhh.

The water hits me and I feel only searing pain. My blood is turning to ice, my vision blinded. I don’t know which way is up anymore. I don’t know what to do.

“Relax John”

“Lorelie?”

“Of course, John. Relax. Let the water take you to me. Don’t fight it. Let it carry you.”

I listen to her. I don’t fight. I want her so badly. If this is the cost, I will gladly pay it.

This was my outline for the Overboard challenge that I never returned to finish (genuinely forgot it was there until I saw the winners chosen today!!). I’m pretty sure I wrote this very late only night that I couldn’t sleep and by morning I had forgotten about it! X
