The last period tardy bell was about to ring however, Madison was still lingering on the stairway. She dreads this class. She is a senior and she needs to make an A in this class. Hesistantly, she makes herself get up and head to class. Her parents are counting on her getting into Harvard, Personally, she wants to attend the local university. She does not want to leave her boo, Travis, who is planning to attend the local university. Travis goes to another high school in the city. They met a rival basketball game a year ago.

When the class is over, she walks home with her best friend Sky. Sky and Madison have been friends since kindergarten. Neither of them have siblings so they are sisters from a different mother. "What are you doing this weekend," said Sky. "Well Travis and I are going to a family gathering at his house on Saturday evening. His parents are having a twenty year anniversary party and lots of his family members will be there." said Madison. They arrives at Madison's home. They goes into the kitchen and Madison makes two sandwiches to accompany two bags of chips and two sodas. The two besties sat on the bar stools at the bar and chatted.

Sky gets up to go upstairs to the bathroom. On the way from the bathroom, Sky trips over one of the dog's toys and tumbles down twenty curvy steps. She lands at the bottom of the steps. Madison ran to her and called her name but there was no response. She went to her cell and called 911. The lady asked her such questions as "Is she responsive and is she still breathing?" "Sobbing, Madison said, "I do not know." The lady on the other end of the phone said, "Do not move her. Help is on the way!" Madison calls Sky's mother and tells her that Sky had fell down the stairs and to meet them at the hospital. Madison crawled in the back of the ambulance with her friend. She kept saying "I love you Sky. Everything is going to be ok." Madison calls her mom and she met them at the hospital.

Both mothers arrived at the hospital at the same time. These mothers had become rather close because of their daughters connection with each other. They both sit and wait for the treating physician to come and give them an update. When he comes out, He said who is the mother and he begins to address Sky's mother. He said, "She suffered a serious fall and broke her neck. We did all we could. I am sorry. Is there anyone you want me to call?

Within the next ten minutes both fathers are by their wives side. The conversation took another tone. Sky's father blamed Madison and her parents for leaving the object on the stairway. Madison's father said, "Hold a minute, it was an acident. You know we loved her like a daughter." Sky's father grabbed his wife by the arm and left the room. Madison and her parents left sobbing.

The next few days were terrible for Madison. She did not want to see or talk to Travis, no matther how hard he tried to connect with her. She would go sit at the bottom of the stairs frequently. Madison could not get over the loss. Sky's parents did not extend an invite to her to attend the private funeral for Sky. The days turned into months. Madison broke up with Travis because she felt that she had no more love to give. After graduation, Madison decided to go to Harvard so that she could leave the memories of lost love behind. So she thought!
