Olympus in snow

A heart of snow

Zeus, the lord of the sky, had seen fit to demonstrate that his power wasn't merely destructive.

The lightning bolt he carried on him at all times was a weapon, he had used it to start wars, he had also used it to stop them.

Because of this, the God had been given a violent rep.

Hera had told him he needed to be more gentle, as the Goddess of marriage, she was kind and loving, and wanted her husband to be too.

He needed to create something new. He had the power of lightning, thunder, rain and wind at his disposal, he could also change the temperature from freezing cold to meltingly hot.

A bright idea formed in his mind, he tested it on Mount Olympus first, the home of the gods.

He froze the rain, just cold enough that it solidified, each individual drop, cold enough to no longer be rain, but not so cold it turned to ice. It became soft to touch, and stuck to surfaces, if enough fell from the sky, it formed thick layers everywhere.

Olympus was covered, a white blanket laid across the pathways and rooftops. He heard laughing, and noticed his people collecting it together into balls in their hands and, on impulse, throwing it at each other. It playfully and softly exploded on impact.

Exactly what Hera had wanted, Zeus was pleased with himself, he named this creation “snow”, and he would introduce it to the mortals on the winter solstice.
