Every night at midnight, the purple clouds came out to dance with the blushing sky.

"Wow", I said to myself, "Something of this phenomenon, and timely too, this is gonna be new experience for me to figure out." Although this had been only the second week i had observed the appearance of these lavender puffs, starting from sundown, counting down the hours til midnight, then their formation into existence, i still had not yet a clue as to why they were here, and better question yet, how or who created them.

"Teacher, could this be, what did you call it, a relevant?" His words sounded both puzzled and inquiring. But his question, i searched my memories, stared at the purple clouds, searched my memories once again, laughed as i hit my head open-palmed.

"Dexter, not a relevant, the word is remnant. I can't believe that this whole time we've been watching these clouds form, night after night, that i would've forgotten what this was, ha, ha, ha. I must be losing my touch."

"So, Teacher, if this is a remnant, what kind is it?"

Now, with laser focus, i study the purple clouds more closely, with intent. Watching as they float in the night sky, gliding along as if unseen by curious eyes. Closer, closer still, then just faintly, tiny sparks of lightning, not enough to leave its pillowy home, but enough for me to see.

"Yes, Dex, i think i do know what kind of remnant this is, it's a dream remnant."

"A What!!?, Teacher, i thought that remnants of that kind were not able to cross into the mortal realm."

"Of the many types that exists, most remnants are products of the mortal world. from vegetation, animals, even civilizations leave some trace behind, showing that they were once here, or that what they've become has traces of what they once were. Dream remnants though, are quite a different breed. they are first, very, very rare, hard to track, and sometimes even harder to track the source. we are Guardians, watchers and protectors of the unseen, and if you think any of the Old Gods had trouble tracking dream remnants, we're in the same boat too. besides one God who is quite an expert in dreams and dreaming, we once were mortal, and have had plenty of practice in recognizing different kinds of dream remnants."

"Now that we know the purple clouds are in fact a dream remnant, we will need to find out who it belongs to,and return it to where it belongs."

"But Teacher", Dexter inquiring again, this time the pitch of his voice expressing nervous excitement. "How could a mortal be able to create a dream remnant, it shouldn't be possible!"

"You're right, it shouldn't be possible. long ago, when i was mortal, the world i knew was a different place. sure, there were some challenges to living, but the energy of the world flowed free, interconnected within the land and each living thing. with the right teacher, they taught where all the energy flowed, how it balanced life, and how to tap into it. plus, that the mortal plane was just one layer, and there's many layers with energy stronger than the next, but still all interconnected."

"Sooooo, Teacher, you were a wizard!"

"In your slang, Not Even!" "as you are to me, i was an apprentice to a wizard."

"May i ask, how did you die, Teacher?"

"No, you may not, at least not right now. there are issues with my transitioning that yet even i still have questions. but, when all is made clear, you'll be first i tell. Seeing the reaction in Dexter's face as if he'd been robbed of some priceless gem was priceless; i needed him focused on the case at hand, find the source of the dream remnant and soon. If what i remembered about dream remnants was correct, we could have a problem of epic consequences.

"All right Dex, let's see if we can find the source of the clouds. remember your training."

With eyes closed, both Dexter and I began to glow and radiate our energy, changing our vibration to different pulses until it matched the dream remnant and its expected source. After 10mins, we picked up its trail.

"Teacher, i found its location, it's faint, but there."

"So, Dexter, where's the location?"

"California, my goodness."

"Why the long face Dex?"

"Let's just say my time there had its ups and downs. it's where i died."

"Well, you have nothing to worry about, but to focus on stopping the remnant."

My words seem to give Dexter some comfort in the half smile he gave. We began to teleport as our bodies began to glow, shining like small candles against the night sky, a bright flash, then gone, leaving behind puffy lavendar clouds slowly drifting across the night sky, with sparks of lightning slowly growing..............
