Eiichiro Oda reveals the Full Backstory of the Kid Pirates

The Kid Pirates, a notorious and noteworthy rookie pirate crew, made their mark during the Sabaody Archipelago Arc in the world of One Piece. After the tumultuous events in Wano, the crew boldly set their sights on attacking the formidable Red Hair Pirates at Elbaf. Unfortunately, their audacious move took a drastic turn when Captain Kid faced the legendary Shanks in battle, resulting in the crew's captain being defeated and their ship decimated at sea with the remaining members aboard. The current whereabouts and fate of the once-prominent Kid Pirates remain shrouded in mystery.

In a revealing glimpse into their origins, Eiichiro Oda, the creator of One Piece, disclosed intriguing details in SBS Volume 104. It was unveiled that Kid, Killer, Heat, and Wire hailed from a specific island in the South Blue, operating independently of the World Government. This island was under the rule of a criminal gang that assumed the role of royalty, further dividing the territory into four districts, each governed by a local criminal gang led by one of the four characters mentioned earlier. Daily conflicts emerged as a result of this divisive setup, yet amidst the chaos, Kid and Killer managed to maintain a deep bond, stemming from their childhood friendship.

A significant turning point in the lives of Kid and Killer occurred when they befriended a girl named Victoria S. (Shirton) Doruyanaika, who became the first crush for both individuals. Volume 87 and 98 SBS entries had previously alluded to this character. Tragically, Victoria met her untimely demise at the hands of the ruling criminal gang, sending Kid into a vengeful frenzy. Fueled by grief and anger, Kid orchestrated a remarkable feat by uniting the four local gangs from the districts. Together with Killer, Heat, and Wire, he led a coup d'état, successfully toppling the criminal gang from power and overthrowing the prevailing order.

In the aftermath of this transformative event, Kid expressed his desire to break free from the constraints of the world he had known. In homage to their fallen friend Victoria, Kid formed a pirate crew with the loyal trio – Killer, Heat, and Wire. Together, they embarked on a seafaring adventure aboard the "Victoria Punk," a ship named in memory of the girl who had profoundly impacted their lives. The crew's journey was marked by the pursuit of freedom and the determination to carve their own destiny in the vast and unpredictable seas of the One Piece world.
