Not As It Seems
Fiction Shorts word of the day: Earnest
Sally opens the front door, calling to her daughter, Sandy.
She is greeted with silence. As she rounds the corner, she notices water trickling from under the bathroom door, tinged red. Her heart stops.
Sally rushes to the door, entering in a panic, to find Sandy no longer living in this world. She can’t understand what she’s witnessing as Sandy is a happy go-lucky girl. She would never take her own life.
Her suspicions are confirmed once the police arrive and she is told there is evidence of foul play. Immediately the search for the killer begins in earnest.
This drabble has been written as part of the daily Drabble Drop challenge and today's random word, that must be included in the drabble, is 'earnest'.
Wikipedia defines a drabble as follows :
A drabble is a short work of fiction of precisely one hundred words in length. The purpose of the drabble is brevity, testing the author's ability to express interesting and meaningful ideas in a confined space.

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.

This reminded me of Hannah Baker from the show 13 Reasons Why. But unlike Sandy, she did commit suicide. Loved your story my friend!
Poor sandy! Well written! ♥️ if this doesn’t get top stories, they shouldn’t have top stories! 😉
I think the brevity accentuates the shock.
