It’s a long way down dangling, to the frayed end of the rope

It’s a long hard road when traveling, without the slightest hint of hope

I must get on with the story, or it will get along with me

Leaving me flailing in the water, like a ship long lost at sea

A bird without a nest or a wanderer without a home

An abandoned soul forgotten chilled and frozen to the bone

Left alone to cry and moan, nothing to lose but air itself

Holding onto childish dreams, instead of these cruel parallels

Frightened of moving forward with no desire to turn back

Collecting courage needed to escape the looming black

Creating worlds of words, exposing glimpses of wild wonder

Only the author knows exactly what spells we will fall under

Fairytales of fancy, and the moons illuminating glow

Wonderland’s of lights, and fields blanketed with snow

Anticipation of the dawn, and the warmth of fire calling

The silent starlit night, watching the tender snowflakes falling

Spinning out a thread of yarn, a tale waiting to be told

New adventures brewing, becoming treasures made of gold

For now the glass is dark and the pen has been replaced

When I look deeper at the mirror I see a new image and face
