It was a regular Saturday afternoon in Willow Creek, a tiny community. Families were out and about, taking in the lovely day as the sun shone and the birds chirped. Yet the day would turn gloomy for one family.

Tyler and Emily, Karen's two young children, have always known Karen's love and devotion. She continuously fussed over them, ensuring they had all they required and more. Her children had begun to notice that she had recently undergone a shift.

Tyler, who was eight years old, had started to notice a fearful darkness in his mother's eyes. She frequently snapped at him without provocation, and her once-warm and reassuring hugs suddenly felt distant and chilly. Even though Emily, who was only six years old, couldn't grasp what was going on, she could tell that something wasn't right.

On this crucial Saturday, Karen's true character would be exposed. Karen suddenly came with a large kitchen knife in her hand while Tyler and Emily were playing in the backyard. She had a distorted smirk on her face and wild, unfocused eyes.

As their mother approached them holding a knife that glistened in the sunshine, the kids froze in terror. Tyler attempted to retreat, but Karen seized his arm and drew him close to her.

He shouted out, "Mother, what are you doing," with tears running down his cheeks.

Karen grinned even wider as she held the blade well above her head. She said in a low, threatening voice, "I'm going to make sure we're all together forever.

Tyler screamed as he escaped his mother's hands and dashed home, followed closely by Emily. With the knife still in her hand, Karen went after them.

Karen pursued the kids as they rushed through the home. They made an attempt to lock themselves in the restroom, but Karen easily kicked the door down. Karen hovered over Tyler and Emily with the knife as they crouched in the corner, tears flowing down their faces.

A squad of police officers barged in through the front entrance with their pistols drawn just as it appeared like there was no hope left. As the officers commanded Karen to put down the knife, she whirled around with the insane expression still on her face.

Nevertheless Karen paid little attention. With the knife flashing in the air, she sprang towards the officers. She was hauled to the ground and restrained by the officers in a couple of seconds.

With her once-beautiful face now disfigured in craziness, Karen was dragged away as the kids gasped in fear.

The days that followed for Tyler and Emily were a blur. Their grandparents took them in and tried their best to protect the kids from the media craze that followed their mother's incarceration.

The kids, however, were unable to ignore what had transpired. The vision of their formerly loving mother turned vicious monster tormented them.

Over several months, Tyler and Emily's lives eventually started to return to normal. They attempted to leave the past in the past, returned to school, and made new acquaintances.

But then Tyler got a letter in the mail one day. It came from his mother, who was currently incarcerated for life. The letter had a disturbing message and was only addressed to him.

Tyler, I'm sorry for what I did, the letter said. "But I was forced to. I had to guarantee our continued union as a group. Do you not see? In a way that we could never have been before, we will now be together forever."

The letter shook Tyler, but he attempted to calm himself down.
