‘Happily ever after’ she murmured, pacing circles under the crescent moon.

She’d tried to silence the questions circling her mind. Questions perhaps necessary prior to enchantment.

She paused, casting a final twig - moistened by the mandatory tear - into the flames. A shimmering light descended delicately.

‘Hello my dea-’

‘What did you mean by “happily ever after”?’ she asked, louder than intended.

‘Whatever you desire, of course!’ the congenial light replied.

‘And... what if his desires differed?’ her voice, now quiet, quavered.

The light sighed, evidently exasperated. ‘That would be a relationship. And enchantment was not the way to start one.’
