The tales the walls could tell.

If these walls could talk, they would tell some crazy, sometimes disturbing stories. These are the walls of an early 20th century mental hospital. This hospital is still open today. These walls have seen a lot in the 120 years they have stood. They have seen a lot of change in the treatments for mental illness.

You walk into the oldest part of the Hospital and the walls are crying out to you. You stop at the very end of the hall and walk into the last room. There is an energy in this room. You cannot tell if it is good or evil. You know that the walls in this room are eager to talk.

They start by telling you that there has been a lot of death in this hospital and particularly in this room. You ask why this room in particular. The walls tell you that this room was the surgical room where they would do experiments and lobotomies on the patients. A lot of them did not make it out of surgery. The doctors would go too deep into the brain and kill the patient.

They tell you the experiments were even worse. Everything from electroshock therapy to experiments with chemicals that would blind and make the patients deaf. They tell you the doctors thought they were doing good. They were experimenting on them to advance medicine. They thought no one would miss them. The sad part is they were correct.

The walls tell you to keep exploring. They tell you that there are a lot more secrets the hospital has to tell. You walk to a different part of the hospital.

You have wandered into where the doctors' offices used to be. You can tell that these walls want to tell you a story. They start by telling you that there have been some really good doctors come through these walls. Somewhere just O.K., some incompetent and one was just evil. You sit down in an old chair and tell them to go on.

They tell you this doctor was evil, but also a genius. The way they killed the patients was sneaky and did not implicate them or so they thought. They would get in the really disturbed patient's ear and talk them into killing themselves. Sometimes they would talk to the patients with a violent streak and would get them to kill certain patients. They had specific targets. They were racists and targeted anyone not white.

They finally made a mistake by targeting a co-worker. The patient engaged to do it was caught and flipped on the doctor. The doctor was connected to 50 murders and suicides. You thank the walls for the story. They suggest you go to the old and new therapy rooms. You agree and go off to find the old therapy room.

You find the old therapy room. The walls in this room tell you they have the best stories in the hospital. This is not a surprise because this is where all the patients would come together and share their stories. The most interesting stories to you were the ones that would not happen today. The stories about people with Tourette's and multiply personality disorder. People with Tourette's would not be put into a mental hospital today. Someone with multiple personality disorder would not be in there unless one of them did something bad.

Then they tell you a story that takes your breath away. They tell you about a brother and sister. They killed their parents. Then they tried to kill everyone in their bloodline. They almost succeeded before they finally were caught. They believed their bloodline was cursed and had to be eliminated. The way they killed everyone was a little crazy. First they poisoned them over time. Then they shot them. Finally they caught them on fire. You thank the walls for the crazy story.

You go in search of the new therapy room. In this room you hear way different stories than from the old therapy room. This room is a cautionary tale for modern society. These stories are about school shootings, the internet, and modern technology. There are stories of sex addicts turned murders. You are not that interested in these stories because you have lived them.

You thank the walls for all the stories and the education of how things used to be.

That is the tale of what a mental hospital would say.

This is an excellent concept! There are many gruesome things that the walls of mental hospitals or asylums would have seen or heard. Loved your story!
