Me, And A Bit About A Peacock
"For Paul's The Writer Bio and Peacock Short Story Unofficial Challenge"
So, you wanna know a bit about me? (she sighs heavily before popping the tight spot in her neck)
Once upon a time there was this girl. A real happy go lucky, sarcastic bitch.
No, wait...not yet.
First, she was a really sweet, turn the other cheek kind of people pleaser, a twin, a tomboy, but mostly a people pleaser. This people pleasing trait was both a blessing and a curse, as in most instances it was a power used only for good (people). But one day she met a monster and he learned he had the power to control what she felt about herself and used the people pleasing trait to serve his selfish and wicked ways. After years of calculated manipulation and complete destruction of her self esteem, the girl could no longer see things through happy go lucky glasses she once employed.
She watched her mom die in 2018, and the monster who once fake loved her didn't even attend. He got an employee pregnant and divorced her two months later. Six months after that, her friend and step daughter of the monster, was killed in her home, she had to clean the crime scene and listen as they called it a suicide...She was all alone, lost to the darkness that hid in the smile of man who no longer loved her.
Today, she is a happy go lucky, sarcastic poetic bitch, who is finally beginning to see the good in things, again
NOW, about that peacock:
I started to write a story about the streaming service, "Peacock" and thought, what a strange thing to ask us to write about and then it dawned on me that you probably meant the bird. You DID mean the bird, right?
Ok then, here we go...
The peacock: not unlike the male species, erects parts of himself to appear bigger than he is when scared or excited, usually exposing a hidden eye or eyespots as it's tail is described. Peacocks are naturally aggressive toward snakes and actively kill and eat venomous and non-venomous serpents within their territory, also similar to the male in that they need to be the only snake in the room.
Many males gather in communal display areas (leks or bars) during the breeding season, shaking and fanning out their large trains to attract mates. This may also include indulging in some liquid courage or singing show tunes during karaoke. During courtship, males fan out their feathers and vibrate them 25 times per second. This creates a rustling sound and a low-frequency infrasound that females can feel, this typically lasts until just after the ceremony, then the females go out to buy suitable products that vibrate at a much higher and controllable rate they can use any time they choose. (wham bam, thank you ma'am)
Only the males (peacocks) have the bright colors and long trains. Females (peahens) are mostly drab brown or gray so they can blend in and hide while nesting, again this generally occurs just after being tied down, wanting to remain small and undetectable. Colors may return after years of separation, experts refused to comment.
While capable of strong flight, and taking care of themselves, they prefer walking or running on the ground and fly primarily to cross obstacles or ascend high branches in trees to roost at night. They like it even better if they can sway someone else to do it for them, if possible, then aptly taking full credit for themselves afterwards. They are commonly referred to as momma's boys. Beware these species at all cost.
In conclusion; though a beautiful species, some are better when simply left to the imagination.
