Somewhere in his mind, he realised that he might die. In this world, death wasn't something that just happened. Death was always a part of his life. No matter what he did in this world, he would die eventually. But there were other ways out, right? He had been able to find his way out in the first place, hadn't he? So why couldn't he find one here?

Maybe it wouldn't happen like that. Maybe he'd somehow escape. Just one chance. One small opportunity he'd grab onto tightly, clinging to every second of it.

Just one chance to live. A single moment he wouldn't regret as long as he lived.

The sun slowly rose from the horizon and cast its warm glow over the townspeople. Kirby shifted uncomfortably in his seat, feeling restless under the intense gaze of the crowd. They were staring at him, waiting for him to speak up. He'd been sitting silently for what seemed like hours. He could feel everyone's eyes boring into his back. He hated having everyone watching him like he was a zoo animal waiting to be sold off.

Suddenly, Kirby realized that the man standing next to him had said something. He looked over at him, hoping that the man would elaborate on his question, but he remained silent. Instead, the man stood there silently, staring at him expectantly. He waited for the man to continue speaking, but it never came. Eventually, he gave up. He sighed.

“Um, sorry,” he said. “I was just thinking.”

The man didn’t respond, just kept staring at him with those piercing blue eyes. Finally, the man spoke up again. “Do you have anything you’d like to add?” he asked, causing Kirby to turn and look at him once again.

“I-I suppose,” he started hesitantly. “Um, is there a reason I shouldn’t talk?” He swallowed nervously. “Or are we going somewhere with this?”

The man smiled slightly and nodded. “We’re going to start talking about what’s going to happen next,” he told him. “I’ve heard that the people are very excited that you’re joining our village,” he added. “They’ve been asking us constantly about you recently, but I haven’t been able to give them very many answers. We haven’t really talked about this yet. You must be very eager for your own introduction to the villagers.”

“Yes, of course,” Kirby replied quickly. He shifted uneasily in his chair. He was beginning to get uncomfortable with the way this conversation was going. He had assumed that this would be a simple discussion. They would discuss his future, his plans to go home, and maybe ask him about his past. He never expected to have to talk about it. Not with the village leaders anyway. Never.

The man continued to watch him carefully. “Well, we can certainly discuss that later,” he finally commented. “For now though I was thinking we should start by giving a tour of our village. It’s rather extensive.”

Kirby swallowed. He wasn’t exactly the most enthusiastic person. He preferred things simple and straightforward. However, he also understood that there was no sense in telling the people who he was, especially considering their reactions. If he was honest to himself, all he wanted to do right now was look for his lover in this village. But since they couldn’t possibly let him go, he figured that he’d better just make the best of his situation. It was the only thing he could do. The last thing he would want was to disappoint people. After all, they all seemed so happy to meet someone new here.

“Oooh, I like that idea,” Kirby said with a nervous laugh. “I think you’re quite clever, sir,” he added while flashing him a quick smile.

The man smiled back. “Thank you, my dear friend,” he said and extended his hand.
