Part One of Four

Manster or Mon? It doesn't just sound funny. It's about the towing of the line between being a man and a monster. We usually try to avoid monstrous thoughts and feelings. Having a severe mental illness diagnosis has me teetering on becoming a monstrosity. Schizo-affective disorder leaves one feeling as if they alternate from one personality to another. Reality seems to be ever-changing. Thoughts and feelings shift at the very whim of a haunted man. Often feeling like Dr. Jekkyl and Mr. Hyde. In this case, Hyde is being quite cheeky. So, I play along. Man to the monster is often no small feat. Though it rarely happens overnight. The other times we don't just break a sweat to swim our way out of regret. Trying to make that a saying. It's a thing!

The man was nothing at the beginning. A solemn lump of clay. He had many bumps, but the potential was exponential. At first, he was a ball of rage and survival kicked into high gear. Tools and forethought were on his side. He discovered Fire when his wife kicked him out of the cave. Fighting hard to be THE dominant species. He began to take shape. Then he was nearly perfect after having been molded by the Gods. He was clay in their strong hands. His rise was loud and boisterous, filled with adventure and harrowing instances, and he excelled in his seemingly final moments. The man turned into a monster right in front of my eyes. Rag to riches. Man to a beast. Nothing to scoff at.

Thoughts raced from purposeful planning to intense hubris, all the way through terror and survival. The change from man to monster was a slow, boiling pot of Bipolar behavior. What once was good and wholesome was an internal rot and brain EMP went off shorting out his constant mindset. The soul is now corrupted and set ablaze upon the rest of the world. Complacency set into an otherwise forever-shifting mentality and emotions.

He stood there. Pieces of necrotic tissue bubbling. Rotting flesh stinking in the wind. May all of the enemies and allies smell of my stench in their nightmares. Respect turned into fear. Fear turned into chaos. We begin to forget, all that man could be. They inevitably turn to greed. Man is stuck in a loop of time. Ahead of his time yet always just one step behind.

They never really see what's coming. No man will be freed. He absorbed all of the colors from the room. He drained the energy of those around him. His color showed bright for just long enough to make a lasting impression. the color rushed out of his face. He wasn't quite a zombie. Shambling, yes. A shell of a man. He waits there and contemplates where he must head next. Valor permeates his mind. He consciously breaks free from its grasp.

Will man perpetually fall from grace? Has falling always been a part of the plan? Man is resilient. Woman was created to keep Man in check. She brought more to the table than anyone could have hoped. She came with the hope of progeny.

*I created this series to express how I sometimes feel in this world. I wanted words to match images, yet left to be interpreted. Art is subjective after all. I just lead you there. Please let me know how you feel about these pieces. Leave comments and show some love. If the series is a big enough hit I'd like to commit to ongoing series of works.
