It was a beautiful saturday. The sun painted the fields in gold as we stood there hand in hand, smiling at each other. This was the only day we had to ourselves since we met three weeks ago, and I was determined to make the most of my time with you.

"Jenny, do you know that you're amazing," Tom told me as we stared into each others eyes.

We had been laughing and joking all morning on this field, and time had no existence; at least not to us, for this day.

I fondly removed a piece of gold straw from Tom's top. The grass had been golden for over a week now, and there was no sign of rain, though I really did not care.

The longer the rain stayed away, the longer I could stay in this moment.

I had no idea why I was feeling this way, or maybe I just didn't know how much I really felt for Tom until now. All I know is that every time our eyes met, my spine would tingle, and I longed for him to kiss me, right now.

Three weeks ago, when we first met, I wouldn't have even considered that I might be in love with him. Of course, there was the usual banter when we met in the street, and the occassional after work coffees, but nothing that would have confirmed that we were more than friends.

We had been standing here for almost an hour, and I noticed that my feet were hurting. Toms must have been hurting too, because he was shifting uncomfortably from foot to foot.

"Let's walk for a bit," I suggested.

"Can I not just pick you up, so we can stand here forever?" Tom asked in a comical voice.

"If we stand here staring at each other any longer, I won't have any feet left!" I told him, laughing.

"Nope! Can't have that!" Tom said, laughing as he suddenly scooped me into his arms, and started running with me across the fields.

"Tom, put me down!" I protested laughing.

"Oh no!" he said, slanting his eyes in that way that always told me he was upto some mischief.

"Please!" I protested, giving him a friendly slap around his back.

"I don't want your legs to fall off!"

Tom insisted on carrying me all the way through the fields. He finally put me down when we got to the beach.

"You can walk now," he told me.

"Gee, thank you!" I sarcastically replied, giggling.

It was so warm that day, and we decided to have a good splash in the sea. It almost felt like we were dating, though we were just friends. It was a weird feeling that I had never experienced around Tom before.

I dived under the water for a minute. To Tom's surprise when I came back up, I had a full bucket of water in my hands.

I didn't say a word, I just threw it at him, laughing my head of.

"Karma!" I told him.

"What?" Tom asked, still laughing.

"Karma! For not putting me down when I asked you to!" I responded.

Tom twitched his lips, shrugged, and held his hands up in protest.

"You can quit that!" I told him, smirking as I swam away, trying to avoid being catched.

Tom was a very strong swimmer. He could swim much faster than a fish. I ducked, dived, dodged and somersaulted under water, and I still couldn't avoid being caught.

"Karma, back at ya!" he told me; as to my surprise, he threw a large bucket of water over my head."

"Screw you!" I told him, trying to swim away, but it was too late; I was already in his arms, and before any words could come out of my mouth, he kissed me.

As the sun started setting, we walked home, hand in hand, in silence. I don't know who was more shocked, though to me, it felt right. During this thirty minute walk home, I finally realized that Iwas certainly in love with Tom. Part of me wanted to run, but part of me wanted to stay.

When we reached our door, I nervously rummaged through my pockets trying to find my door keys. It took me over twenty minutes to find them, because I couldn't think straight. I managed to unlock the door, and I stepped inside, but Tom did not follow me straight away.

"Are you coming in for coffee?" I asked him, eagerly.

Tom shifted from foot to foot. I could see he was nervous, so I waited a little longer.

He did eventually come inside, and he had coffee with me, but the silence between us was awkward.

He spoke up after ten minutes.

"I think I've loved you all my life," he told me.

That was the last time I saw Tom in almost 6 months, until I met him on the beach again, in which he turned to me, in tears and said,

"Will you marry me?"
