Ava skipped up the steps to her apartment, thrilled to find the awaited letter taped to her door. After a dull day at work, this was the highlight she craved. She rushed inside, reading it eagerly.
“Every day, you make me smile. Your bright greetings light up the halls, and your kindness warms my heart. Until next time, Secret Admirer.”
Her heart soared as she reread it, then carefully placed it in her memory box. It was the 365th message from her mystery admirer, and although she longed to know their identity, each note brought a smile to her face.

As the plane ascended, Natalie’s stomach churned with a familiar sense of dread. She despised every moment of being in the air. Natalie’s leg continued to bounce as the plane leveled, gliding through the overcast sky. She unclenched her fists, releasing the death grip she had on the armrest to her left and the phone in her right. She couldn’t wait for this seven-hour flight to be over and to be safely on solid ground. Before switching her phone to airplane mode, she checked again for any response from her sister. Still none.
