Awakening from the shore should be terrifying. But it’s not. Having spent three years on a small island all by herself should scare her, but it doesn’t. Alisa was a witch. Came from a very long line of witches. This island is her home. Sure it was gifted to her by her aunt and uncle but it’s not like anyone can easily travel over here.

Her boredom had reached peaked levels. Alisa walked down a path. Animal pens on either side. Some for chickens. Some for cows. She had everything she needed on this island. Everything except companionship. Her large cottage home was always dimly lit. the sun brightening the home during the day and the candles brightening the rooms at night.

However when she got back to her room she felt a presence. “Did Marcy get through again?” Her small cow that always ends up in her bedroom. However what laid wasn’t a cow. A male human-like figure, drooling on her pillow, chest falling and rising.

“How shameless.” She said, Her arms crossed as she narrowed her eyes at the tattoo below his ear.

Two pitchforks and a flame.

“Hey, get up.” Alisa said. The man grunts, pulling up a blanket to cover his face. Alisa tsks, her magic summoning a cloud. Thunder crackles as the man jolts awake. He sits up just in time for the rain to pour.

“Well good morning.” She smiled. Hands on her hips. The man glared at her before bursting out into laughter.

“Ah, a fine one indeed.” He grinned, running his fingers through his hair. He looked her up and down, tilting his head to catch the tattoo on her hip.

“Eyes up here.” She snapped.

“Yes, ma’am.” He said, meeting her eyes.

As Alisa wondered why someone like him would be here, right on time did her beloved cow Marcy run in. The cow brushed her head against Alisa. The fond moos were vocal enough for the strange man to laugh again.

“You laugh too much.” Alisa said tiredly.

“Well I can’t help it.”

“First, get out of my room.”

Without any delay he snaps. Bringing them outside. To the cold mountains and not her warm and sunny island.

“Excuse me, I did not ask to be taken-”

They were in front of an old factory. The one that people were told to stay away from in the last decade.

“You brought me here because?” Alisa asked.

“You have the ability to summon anything. Recent findings say there are lost souls.”

“You want me to be their salvation?”

“Every member of the council had agreed. Except for one.”

She looked him up and down.

“Aren’t you on the council?”

“Yes.”

“I did not agree.”

He opened a portal pulling a box out. A box of sweet vanilla cream puffs.

“If you help me-”

“Okay let’s get to it, Tony.” She walked ahead. Her cow frolicking behind her. He blinked, setting the box back in.

“My name is Zave! Not even close!”

They wander through with a small torch. Following the presence of the lost souls. Though something eerie was following them.

“So, Tony. How many times have you been here?”

“Zave. I’ve been here twice.”

“Ever felt something following you?”

“Yes. I just don’t bother to look back.”

“Why?”

“Probably a gnome or some bored yeti.”

Alisa watched some liquid fall onto her cow. She looked up. Some deformed human hanging from above. She passed the torch over to her fellow council member and lifted her cow into her arms before sprinting.

“Don’t leave me!” He shouts. The creature runs after them. Alisa jumped over broken bridges and kicked down boarded fences. She got to an elevator. Magic operating it, meaning this is how they go up. Soon as she entered she saw the creature leap.

“Run Tony!”

“I’m trying!”

He barely made it into the shutting doors of the elevator. He panted hard as it began to rise up. They were all okay. Marcy trembled in Alisa’s arms. Even more so when the creature began creating indents into the elevator. When the elevator stopped moving. So did the creature. The doors open automatically. And as Alisa peeked her head, the creature snarled in her face. She summoned a door and blocked it from getting in.

“Okay. You teleport over there and kill it.”

“I don’t want to.” He said.

“Why?”

He slowly turned over.

“I’m hungry.”

Alisa blinked. Her smile grew over her face. Next thing he knew he was out there. The creature circled him before leaping. He stared at the elevator, his energy sending the creature back. Then a pitchfork in flames goes through it.

The door to the elevator disappeared and Alisa came out relieved. She sets her cow down, gently soothing.

“I see you two have bonded!” A woman smiled. A few others join them. Every single witch on the council had arrived.

“Yes. Tony was a pleasure having.” Alisa said with a dead pan look.

The woman laughed.

“My name is Zave.” He said with a sigh.

“Huh? What did you say?” Alisa held a hand to her ear.

“By the way Sennia. Are we all doing this just for lost souls?”

“No. We’re doing it so evil doesn’t approach the lands again.”

Alisa hummed. The war against the demons. It’s been fifteen years. Suppose if Sennia is here. That means something dark was approaching. Marcy watched Zave pull out some water. She jumped over, nudging him for some.

He stared at her, before tipping the water over. He laughed at the way she drank.

“So? Isn’t he fun to be around?”

Alisa watched him play with her cow.

“Hmm, maybe he’s not so bad.”

“Think she’d taste good?” Zave laughed.

Alisa summoned a cloud over his head. Only this time thunder struck his body.

“Never mind.”
