"How precious. How tiny," she marveled at the creature within her hands.

Without warning, the door swung open as Timothy strode in. "Annett! You must get rid of it!"

Cupping it, hiding the babe from view, she faced him, "Why is that? What has this little thing done that's deserved such harshness from you?"

"I've no amnesty for the poor thing. Yet, its species is another thing altogether."

"Its species?"

"They carry a disease plaguing our birth rates. SIDs is no laughing matter. In due time, it'll grow, becoming the largest natural land predator that has no fear of man."
