Life’s Highway
No U-Turns
Life’s highway has a way of tossing you some detours. You’re driving along, shades on, doing 80, cruising without a care, when, out of nowhere, BAM, road closed.
This is not a road you planned on taking. No. This is off roading without warning.
Life alone.
Brutal, cruel and sometimes, dangerously necessary.
Jump in without a life jacket, learn to swim or die, kind of trip.
What I found on this journey?
Is the road that led to me.

Spectating
I can't imagine dying like this, in a place like this; on a cold, dirty pavement with rush hour traffic screaming by and a crowd looking on while paramedics struggle to find space to move. Who could? Deep down we all think there should be a reason, a moment of clarity... or a family presence, at least. For this man, this boy, the rail thin woman lighting a cigarette in a faux fur jacket will have to do - she's been here since the start, her eyes tracking the movement of my shoulders as we fight to keep him on the right side of the line.

Colored In Memories
She wasn't ready for it, but she had no choice. It was the only way to get her brother back. Her own memories for his. The irony was that she'd have to give up a future with her family to guarantee he'd even exist, save his past. The family needed him more. I need him more than I ever got to tell him.
