“I don’t have time to read. I’ve a life to live,” scoffed Ian.

And live he did, until he had an accident that left him in hospital, on a long road of recovery.

A friend visited in the hope of lifting his spirits, leaving a book perched on the side of his nightstand.

Out of sheer boredom, Ian turned the first page and was hooked. The story captivating him into believing he was still out there living the life of his dreams.

That silver lining turned him into an avid reader, allowing him to escape his hospital bed at will.

I was challenged to write a drabble of the word 'reader'.

Wikipedia defines a drabble as follows :

A drabble is a short work of fiction of precisely one hundred words in length. The purpose of the drabble is brevity, testing the author's ability to express interesting and meaningful ideas in a confined space.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.

Love it! So true! I’ve never heard of a Drabble… sounds fun, I’ll have to try it sometime .✅

  • My friend, hahahahahahahaha! Just when I thought you're gonna hit me with a memory card reader or a mind reader, you hit me with the obvious! And by doing so, you still managed to impress me so much! Loved your drabble!
