The Adventures of Detective Linus

Detective Linus was in his office when he received a call from Richard Brooks, an odd jeweler who claimed he had just been robbed. Right away, Detective Linus arrived at the boutique and Mr. Brooks explained what happened while he is taking care of the client who is interested at buying jewelries.

Mr. Brooks spent the entire morning showing the diamond rings to a gentleman in a gray suit, quite tall, who was very polite, handsome, presentable and knowledgeable about diamonds. When Mr. Brooks looked down to grab the store’s most expensive ring, he felt someone hit him on the head. He fell forward and become unconscious, when he woke up the gentleman in the gray suit was gone. He hurriedly checked the jewelries to see if there were missing and good thing its all there.

Detective Linus didn’t ask any more questions. Instead, he wrote a report saying that Mr. Brooks wasn’t robbed; he was actually faking the whole thing. The detective came to this conclusion because Mr. Brooks’ story didn’t add up. For example, Mr. Brooks claimed that he was hit on the head and fell forward, but there was no blood on the floor where he fell nor blood where he said he was hit.

Additionally, Mr. Brooks claimed that the thief stole the most expensive ring in the store, but it was still in its place when Detective Linus arrived at the scene. Finally, if Mr. Brooks had fallen forward, the weight of his body would have broken the glass counter in front of him, but there wasn’t even a scratch.

Questions:

1. What do you think is the reason why Mr. Brooks faked being roobed by the guy wearing a gray suit?

2. What is his real intentions in making a false report?

3. what happened to the guy in a gray suit?
