Leaving Again

The man in the corner keeps watching me as I pretend to obliviously care for the other orders. Instead of fear, I feel calm.
Finally near the end of my shift, he raises his hand to grab my attention. "Kendra."
"Jacob."
"It's time."
I sigh deeply. I was suppose to be safe in this backwater town, but somehow my notorious mob ex keeps finding me. "Where to now?"
"You know I can't tell you that."
"I want this to be over, Jacob."
"I know. Someday."
With no other words between us, we walk out of the diner, never to return.
