Late-Night Shopping Encounters
Microfiction Challenge
I first saw her in the condiment aisle, a Warhol-esque backdrop of ketchup accentuated her golden hair. Our eyes met and she smiled, I grimaced more than smiled. I hurried out the aisle. She wore the same smile as we crossed paths in the drink aisle. Managed a polite nod this time.
Paper towels towered high above her. I helped, the situation was quaint and we both silently smiled. Later, she shivered but still smiled in the frozen aisle. Coincidence had us depart the self-checkout simultaneously. With a smile and nod, she walked out of the store and my life.
