"Dr.Lana, I have someone to show you," one of my favorite students says.
She pulls up a picture on her phone of a sassy cat, "Meet Lana."
I look a little confused.
"I named her after you," she adds.
"Really?? Why?" I'm genuinely surprised, coming from a culture where pets are not considered of the same status in the household as humans (I know, I need to change that attitude but some cultural beliefs are really hard to shake off).
"Because she is smart, aloof, and extremely selective with what she eats and does."
"I'm honored," and I mean it.
